Inviting kids to a wedding is a tricky thing to get right. Everyone crosses their fingers for well behaved little darlings as opposed to the little horror who hides under the table and sticks his finger into the cake. Short of tying them down to a chair with silly string, here’s a few tips for keeping the little angels busy and out of harms way.
Bride and groom toy set available from Playmobil.
Adults are boring. Well, it’s true if you are under 10. So if you are having a few children over you could try having a dedicated kids table with plenty of juice, candy and a fun children’s menu. Even better, if your budget will stretch to it, hire a childminder/ entertainer for a couple of hours to make balloon animals, do magic tricks and paint faces.
Keep little minds busy with a party box stuffed with goodies. If you are of the craft variety, we like filling metallic card boxes with a single-use camera, bags of sweets, bubbles, colouring books and crayons and little playmobil people. For girls add in bead making kits and for boys pirate headscarves and eye patches. If you would rather use a premade box try Event Smiles who will personalise a kit to age and gender. Prices £4.99 to £49.99
Both indoor and outdoor weddings are great for hide and seek with willing – and brave – guests. A Twister mat will keep them tied up and traditional party games like statue, tag and pass the parcel will all help pass the time and wear them out. Don’t forget prizes for the winner and all the runner ups.
