Well, Geraldine, firstly you have absolutely excellent taste! This gown from Monique Lhuillier’s Fall 2005 collection may look simple but the refined elegance is all in the detail. The floor length dress itself is simple but overlaid with floaty lace with the neckline plunging into a deep vee and fastened in a halterneck. I particularly like the wide deep-pink ribbon with it’s jewelled clasp.
The eagle eyed amongst you may have also noticed the similarities in the neckline and ribbon detail to Pink’s wedding dress.
I wish I could tell you that I could find this dress in a bargain store but the only UK stockist is currently Browns Bride in London. However, I did the next best thing and came up with some dresses that are similar in style as well as the details of a huge wedding dress sale extravaganza this coming weekend!
The first dress I found is by Blu by Madeline Gardner, available from Bridalsave.com in the US. It hasa similar v-shaped halter neckline with a slim lace skirt and chapel length train. At a very reasonable $575 (with sizes 2-28) they will throw in a shawl too.
If you are in London on Fri 17th or Sat 18th March there is a bridal sale on, near Charing Cross tube, with dresses from £149. For those of you at the other end of the country, Glasgow’s dress sale is April 9th. Book your free tickets here.
Fancy customising a dress? VV Rouleaux have a fantastic range of mail order ribbon. 70mm wide ribbon comes in at £2 per metre. I suggest you pick around 3 or 4 metres so that you can have a double or triple layer with enough to gather up into a loose bow.
Also from Swarovski is the slightly less expensive, but equally gorgeous brooch ‘smoky’ (right) with various cuts of crystal at £69.
