Remains of the day

EpsonAs you can imagine covering photography for a readership from countries far and wide is a little more difficult than merely recommending Johnny down the road with his telescopic lens to capture close ups of your nuptials.

Of course the answer is clear. D.I.Y! In this day of digi-cam (see Shiny Shiny for the best) anyone can turn photographer. But how do you get those pics for keeps? Epson’s Picturemate 100 is a fine little gadget. It covers a surface space approximately the size of two DVD cases and couldn’t be simpler to operate. Open one slot, pop in the ready cut photo paper, it does its thing and churns out pictures the other end.

Due to its teeny size you could take the PictureMate to the reception with you. Get an optional BlueTooth adapter and your guests can even send their camera phone pics to it for immediate developing. Otherwise, the PictureMate hooks up to the digicam via a USB cable or directly to your PC. It’ll take most memory cards too.

Asides from the ease of operation, what really swung me was the lack of waste involved. The 1.5 inch screen shows you exactly what you’ll get, unlike the standard disposable party camera wielded by your tipsy usher, meaning you only print out what you want. And the photo quality is great to boot.

Retail starts at around £74 and it is available from most electrical outlets. The separate PicturePack has a cartridge and 135 photos, £19.99. By my calculations that could bring your wedding photography in at only a £100.

I’m not quite sure how it happened, but we entirely failed to write about the Epson Picturemate 100 when it launched. Since I actually own one myself, this is a shameful oversight. Luckily, Camilla, editor of our wedding blog, Bridalwave,
