"Please help. It’s six weeks to go until my wedding and I still don’t have anything for my bridesmaids to wear! I have 2 adult bridesmaids, one of them gave birth less than a month ago and as she is breastfeeding she is, very "top heavy", making dress buying very difficult. I would like the dresses to be long and silver if possible as the theme is Red and Silver. If not then white, or black. The style of full skirts to mid calf suit neither girl.
If we could find something on the high street so could be tried on would be ideal. Any ideas? Time is running out." Ruth
"ps – I love Bridalwave – frock horror really makes my week !"
Flattery gets you everywhere, Ruth, it even gets you a selection of hard-to-find silver dresses!
My first find is this gorgeous bandeau dress which is perfect for party girls. As your bridesmaids don’t suit long skirts, the skirt falls just to the knee but is quite high waisted so suitable if your new Mum bridesmaids is still feeling a bit self conscious about her figure. I’m not sure how low cut the back os but I suspect she’ll be able to get a bra under there comfortably too. It’s £75, sizes 6-16 at Warehouse.
Oasis have produced my second pick. The assymetric sequinned mesh dress is a darker silver grey and is undeniably pretty. It is available in sizes 8-14 for £50.
Metallic colours work really well on fabrics like this chiffon number. The skirt is a pretty flared design, just on the knee with a high waist and a halter neck, great for women with larger bosoms. It comes in sizes 6-26 for £40 at Choice.
This strapless ruched bodice dress from Monsoon has a tie sash waist that has seen huge popularity in bridalwear this year. Made from pure silk, it’s available in sizes 8 -16 for £160.
As you can see I’ve concentrated on trying to find silver dresses which seem to be in short supply and I didn’t see a single long one during my search. You suggested black dresses as an alternative and you’ll find plenty of styles on the High Street which could be accessoried with silver shoes and jewellery to tie in your theme. I will also suggest that if none of these suit then try Devotion Bridalwear – the owner is a magnificent seamstress – and is based, if I remember correctly, in your hometown.
