If you were hoping for some inspiration for the next season of wedding dresses at New York’s recent fashion week, then I’m afraid you’re out of luck. There wasn’t that much to choose from, but I’ve still trawled the photo archives to find some dresses that might give us a clue as to where the designers are heading.
This strapless dress is by Bill Blass. Sprigged with feathers and topped off with a bow at the strapline, I think this is instantly wearable for a fun, winter bride.
Unfortunately I’m not so thrilled about this second Bill Blass design. Yes, I can see where it is going drawing from Asian influences in the shalwar kameez style but I just don’t think the high gloss, near translucent fabric works.
Marchesa is usually a winner with Oscar dresses, but this wedding dress is a little too high fashion to make it off the catwalk. Still, it is interesting to note that sashes are still in as are coloured features on the dress and the neckline is very high.
Finally, I’ve found this enormous dress from Zac Posen. It tells me that skirts will be not only full but full of detail on a grand scale. The dress screams must be the centre of attention.
