Smudge Free Mascara For Brides

Blincmascara  I’ve just realised that when I wrote about my wedding-related nightmares, I missed one out – and this is one nightmare I’m pretty sure will come true. Being the emotional kind, I’m almost 100% convinced that I’m going to more or less sob my way through the ceremony, and probably through most of the speeches, too. This means two things: 1) I’m a big old softie and 2) I desperately need to find myself a good, waterproof mascara. So far this is proving easier said than done.

Over the past few months I’ve been road-testing mascaras. While Lancome’s L’Extreme performed pretty well, I’m looking for something a little bit more, well, extreme, really, so the hunt has been on. In terms of waterproofing, I was mightily impressed by Blinc’s Kiss Me Mascara, which really is un-shiftable. It’s pretty impressive because, rather than simply coating your lashes with paint, it actually forms tiny tubes over each individual lash, which no amount of tears or rubbing at the eyes will remove. (Trust me, I’ve tried.)

The only problem with Blinc, however, is that although it will allow me to weep my way through my wedding without fear of turning to walk back down the aisle with twin mascara tracks running down my cheeks, it does absolutely nothing to lengthen the lashes or curl them – another mascara bites the dust.

From Blinc I moved onto Yves St Laurent’s Faux Cils – a nice, dramatic mascara, but sadly not a waterproof one. Now I’m all out of options, and I still haven’t found my perfect, wedding day mascara. So tell me: what will you be wearing on your eyes? Help a poor bride to be in her hour of need…

  • so you have to sit and cry in order to test them? the things brides-to-be have to do! 😉 xx

  • Not quite, Diane, but I did give my eyes a good old rub with the Blinc stuff, which claimed to be un-shiftable under *any* circumstances. “We’ll see about that!” I thought. But yes, these are the things we brides have to think about 🙂

  • I’m having mine tinted beforehand and then….not really sure!! sorry i’m not more helpful.
Be careful though, frequently the waterproof agent in mascara is boot polish substance.

  • What about eyelash extensions? (the ones you get put on in Salons not stick on eyelashes!) They are pretty pricey, but you can’t cry them off.

  • I’m really, really tempted by extensions, Charlotte: I sometimes use individual false lashes for special occassions, but they’re just not reliable enough, and I’d no doubt end up looking like spiders died on my face! I’m definitely going to check out the extensions, though, thanks for the tip 🙂

Dataceptionist, eyelash tinting is a monthly occurence for me because my eyelashes are so pale they look see-through most of the time! The problem is that it doesn’t make them long and curly like mascara does, more’s the pity….
