Planning the honeymoon: part 1

By admin on January 4th, 2007 2 comments

Lanzarotebeach Today has been an expensive (but exciting!) day for us, for today, at long, long last, we’ve officially booked our honeymoon – and almost bankrupted ourselves in the process. Oops. Because we’re getting married right before Easter (not a clever move on our part because it’s the most expensive time of the year to travel), something low budget was in order, and because we were looking for somewhere that would be hot in April, the Canary Islands seemed the obvious choice.

We’ll be flying out to Lanzarote on April 1st (yes, April Fool’s Day), and, rather than staying in a hotel, we’ve booked a villa with a private pool and ocean view in a little village not far from the coast. The plan is to just chill out and relax for a couple of weeks after the wedding, and I have the feeling that by the time April 1st rolls around, we’ll really, really need it!

Now that it’s 2007, and the wedding’s less than three months away the planning is going into overdrive. Booking the honeymoon is at least one thing to check off the To Do list, but it’s still looking worryingly full. Because of the way the flight times worked out, we’ll be leaving for our honeymoon the day after the wedding, which is also going to take a little bit of planning as we’ll need to have our cases packed before the wedding (we’ll be leaving for the airport from our honeymoon hotel), and I’m almost certain to leave something behind.

This also adds a new urgency to the "fake tan or no fake tan" debate, as I’d decided to be pale and interesting on the wedding day itself, but I’ll definitely need a bit of a tan for the honeymoon. Aargh! So much to think about, but luckily, these are the kinds of dilemmas I enjoy the most: roll on the 31st March…

We still haven’t booked our honeymoon and we’re getting married on march 9th!!!! its difficult to please both of us – while i’m happy being pampered lying in the sun etc he’s all for interesting travel i.e roughing it! Any suggestions anyone for a place that would suit us both – or even a 2 center holiday???

  • We’re looking at cuba- the wedding is in May. Everything else we’ve managed to sort out in the few weeks since the end of December when we decided to actually gety married and not just talk about it.

We’re looing at Cuba, but even the 2 centre holidays seem to have far fewer daysd in Havana then we’d like.

Looks like we’re booking everything ourselvs /relaying on a friend local travel agent who actually listened to us and didn’t dismiss our love of city life.
