Weekday weddings – would you have one?

678836_weddingWhile Saturday has long been the most popular day of the week to get married, recently I’ve noticed an increase in the number of people choosing to get married during the week instead. It makes a lot of sense: most venues charge extra for a weekend wedding, and if you’re on a budget, choosing to say your vows on a Friday, or even a Wednesday or Thursday could be a good way to cut the costs.

The big problem with week day weddings, though, is that although they can be both cheaper and easier for the couple getting married, the same can’t always be said for their guests, who may be forced to take time off work – or miss the wedding altogether if that’s not possible. For this reason we’re sticking with the traditional Saturday wedding, plus the extra expense it entails. What about you? What day of the week will you be getting married on?

We’ve just decided to move our wedding to the Friday because several of our first choice suppliers can’t do the Saturday. I’m a bit worried about people not coming, but we’re hoping that if we give everyone plenty of notice it should be ok- it’s only one day off work after all.

Shiny don’t stress!! People will come because they want to and so they’ll be there for you regardless of the day!

I’m doing a friday evening garden party just to be different. Everyone (including everone at Brialwave towers it seems) is doing the trad Saturday church then ridiculously long “do” type thing. People remember weddings because they were fun, relaxed and different – especially when you end up going to about four in a summer!

  • We were lucky and got our first choice of mid afternoon on the saturday of a Bank Holiday weekend.

Weekends are just easier all-round for us but it did take a few places before we found a reception venue we were happy having on a Saturday night in Liverpool.
