When it came to picking your wedding venue, I’d be willing to bet good money that not many of you thought of heading down to your local Wal*Mart. Am I right? For seven "lucky" couples, however, the aisle they’ll be walking down to get married is likely to contain canned goods and other supermarket essentials, for the retailer is running a competition to allow them to get married in store.
Actually, this isn’t quite as bizarre at it seems. The wedding venues in question won’t be the cereal aisle or the lingerie section, but the slightly more salubrious lawn and garden areas. Wal*Mart is running the competition to allow the seven winners to be married on the 7th of July this year (which, as we know, is the most popular wedding date of 2007), and are even throwing in a wedding package worth $5000, including wedding rings, digital cameras and a $1000 Wal*Mart gift card. Are you feeling tempted yet?
If you are, you’ll need to visit the Wal*Mart gift registry website and click on the "Lucky in Love" link on the right hand side. There’s a short questionnaire to be filled in, which allows you to state just why you should be selected for the prize.
“We understand that life’s full of celebrations for our customers and we want to help those times be memorable,” said John Fleming, Wal-Mart executive vice president and chief merchandising officer. “We’re excited to provide solutions for these couples who will allow us to be a part of this major moment in their lives.”
