Project Catwalk bridal inspiration

Project_catwalkThis weeks penultimate episode of Sky One’s Project Catwalk saw the four remaining contestants designing a wedding dress for TV presenter Holly Willoughby.

Her brief was to create something beautiful, but not too traditional and to incorporate “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue”… the latter of which was a challenge thrown in at the 11th hour!

The designers upped sticks and headed for the shop floor of Debenhams, Oxford Street where they had to make their creations with crowds of shoppers, and in-store designers Pierce & Fionda, watching over them.

The results were not as bad as I had feared, given the look of dread on the contestant’s faces when they were told of this week’s challenge, and yet again Aussie girl Monika pipped the others at the post. Her design, shown above, featured a very plunging neckline with crossover detail and a virtual puffball of a skirt with a seductive thigh high split. I personally felt it wouldn’t look out of place in any big name fashion designer’s bridal show.

Obviously this particular dress isn’t widely available for anyone to buy, unless Monika goes on to win the show and features it in her own collection at Debenhams, but if you do want something unique which won’t cost the earth it’s worth contacting your local design school to see if there are any up and coming designers who would be interested in making something for you. It would be a great opportunity for them to showcase their work and for you to have something truly individual. Who knows you may end up with an original by the next Vera Wang or Coco Chanel!
