The W Hotel Union Square, New York City

There’s an old saying, “New York New York, so good they named it twice” and I couldn’t agree more. I first visited New York City as part of my honeymoon and have been seven times since.

There are so many hotels, in so many locations in the city but if money was no object and I had to chose somewhere luxurious to spend several nights with my new husband I would definitely book into the W Hotel on Union Square.

W is a ‘cosy’ 270 room boutique’hotel on Union Square, at  201 Park Avenue South. It’s rooms vary in size and grandeur but with names such as ‘Wonderful room’, ‘Spectacular room’ and ‘Wow suite’ boasting such facilities as munchies boxes, overstuffed velvet armchairs, flat screen wall hung TVs with media centres, jacuzzis and in some cases a killer view over Union Square park, you are guaranteed luxury no matter which one you choose.

The location of this hotel is ideal for a newly married couple who want to celebrate by dining and drinking out in style. The local area is packed full of great restaurants and bars and nearby Greenwich Village is a bustling hive of activity with the City’s NYU attracting a young, hip crowd.

The big name shops are only a walk, or a short bus ride away. The tube, in my opinion, is absolutely safe and very dependable, but if you’ve never been to NY the bus is a great, cheap way of seeing the city at street level and a Metrocard means you can jump on and off whenever you want.

The great thing about NY is no two visits are ever the same. You can embrace the touristy side of Manhattan and visit the Empire State, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island etc or you can take it easy and sip coffee in one of the many cool coffee shops or bars, then take a stroll through the utterly romantic Central Park hand in hand, leaving the noise of the city behind. No matter what you choose to do with your time while you’re in NY one thing is guaranteed…you’ll want to go back again and again!

Prices at The W vary according to the time of year and the size of room.  On average you are looking at $300-$600 per night in July. You can check out prices and availability on their website.
