Research insurance company Churchill has found that guests spend a whopping £13.8 billion attending weddings. This breaks down to each adult spending around £340 each time a friend or relative ties the knot. For a wedding with 114 guests, that’s a total of £39,000 per wedding.
The research finds that it’s the hen and stag do’s that cost the most money with around £90 per head for a night out in town or dinner locally. The costs rise again for a mini break abroad or a weekend away within the UK. Getting to the venues takes up the next amount of around £82 per person after taking into account petrol, taxis and hotel bills or flights.
Further costs incurred by guests go on new outfits, gifts (of which British guests come out as more generous than average), haircuts and reception drinks.
