Iconic Brides #5: Bianca Jagger

Bianca Perez Morena de Macias (say that three times fast!) married Rolling Stone frontman Mick Jagger in French Riviera town St.Tropez on 12th May 1971. The civil ceremony, which took place in the town hall, had a rocky start when an argument broke out between Jagger’s spokesman and local police over the amount of paparazzi who’d been allowed into the hall. As a result the ceremony was postponed by one and a half hours (perhaps that explains Bianca’s expression in the first photograph!)

Bianca decided against a traditional wedding dress, opting instead for an ultra chic white trouser suit by legendary Saville Row tailor Tommy Nutter, who had previously designed and tailored suits for the Rolling Stones, Elton John, and Yoko Ono to name but a few. She wore the jacket with nothing underneath, a look copied many times in fashion since.

An oh-so-’70s large white floppy hat, with a plain white veil over, and a floral corsage on her left wrist (later removed to expose an elegant diamond bracelet) were her only bridal accessories. Her scarlet red fingernails and jet black tousled hair adding stark contrast to all of the white.

The couple had a simple religious ceremony later that evening in St. Anne chapel, the venue being chosen by Mick Jagger who was born on St. Anne’s day. As the couple exchanged rings Bach’s wedding march was played, followed by a collection of themes from Love Story.

The reception was held in Cafe des Arts and was attended by over 200 guests, 70 of whom were especially flown in on a private jet chartered by the groom. afterwards the couple sailed off into the sunset on a private yacht for a 10 day honeymoon around the islands of Corsica and Sardinia. You can’t always get what you want…unless you’re Bianca Jagger obviously!
