I love the idea of creating a bespoke gown that has all the elements you want from skirt shape to sash colours but I’m no seamstress and couture prices can be a little on the scary side. The next best thing has to be the design service at Olivia Luca. Several steps take you through designing your own gown from the bodice shape to the skirt legnth, the fabric and the colour and the price at the end depends on your choices. Wedding dresses, bridesmaids and formalwear are all catered for.

The first step was to pick out my skin colour then I moved swifly on to select an empire off the shoulder bodice which would give a vee shape both front and back. The mermaid floor length skirt with a small train was my next pick. Out of the wide range of fabrics available, I selected a fairtrade handwoven silk shantung which was only available in silk white shade though by varying the fabric, I could have had a lot more options, but seeing as I wanted to create a traditional gown, this suited very well.
For the detail, I decided to emulate current trends by picking out a 1.5″ empire knot sash which could be tied at the front, side or back in organic cotton sateen in pale blue. According to their measurements my size came in at a US6 and the price, a very reasonable US$1113.50
It was really easy to use and a great way to put together your dress or your bridesmaids dress, especially if you want to go for organic or fairtrade fabrics.
