The worst gift you could buy a bride?

bride.JPGAmongst the dozens of press releases Bridalwave receives every week there are some real gems to share with our readers… and some really odd ones too. The one I got from an American firm yesterday suggests, in my opinion, perhaps one of the most ill considered gifts you could buy a bride is in fact the perfect pressie.

The release says, “For many couples after they tie the knot the next step is to start a family. And the growing trend in society seems to be to get married later in life which can often make the window for conception much smaller for women. And, what many people do not know is that there are six million U.S. women battling fertility issues. So why not plan ahead and get the bride to be an [ovulation kit name redacted]…

“This is the perfect gift from the eager mother-in-law or even an aunt-to-be. Give the best gift of all—the gift of life!”

For those of you who don’t plan on having children, are an older bride, or just not that keen on answering the question ‘so when will you be having kids?’ at your wedding or any bride really, do you find the idea of getting an ovulation kit as a wedding present horribly offensive or quite thoughtful…?

  • Oh. My. God. I’m SO glad no one tried to give me one of these at my wedding! I mean, it’s like giving a younger bride and groom a bumper pack of condoms or something. My reproductive plans are nobody’s business but my own – I would SO resent that kind of interference! And imagine all of the “so how are you finding the ovulation kit?” questions after the wedding. Hee!
