classic_kennedy.jpgShe may never have become as well known as her famous mother-in-law, Jackie Kennedy, but when Carolyn Bessette married JFK Junior on 21st September, 1996, she certainly managed to channel some of Jackie’s legendary style.

Given that she was marrying into one of America’s most powerful dynasties, the Calvin Klein publicist could probably have afforded to go the ostentatious route. Instead, Carolyn’s wedding was as chic and stylish as she was, with the bride choosing a classic white sheath dress by Narcisco Rodriguez, complimented by a sleek bun and red lipstick.

The couple married in a simple ceremony on Georgia’s Cumberland Island, with only 40 guests. Having gone to huge lengths to keep the ceremony private, and even leaking rumours to the press that the relationship was on the rocks, it was nevertheless one of the most talked-about weddings of the year, with the picture of JFK Junior kissing his bride’s hand beamed around the world within hours of the ceremony.

Sadly, the couple didn’t make it to their third wedding anniversary. They died in 1999, along with Carolyn’s sister Lauren, when the plane John was piloting crashed into the sea near Martha’s Vineyard. A short-lived marriage, but an iconic wedding nonetheless.
