Most people will remember the wedding of Hollywood superstars Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas because of the million pound landmark legal battle that ensued when Hello! magazine published unauthorised photos of the couple at their wedding. Incase you missed the details of the wedding itself, let me remind you…The ceremony took place on 18th November 2001 at The Plaza Hotel, New York. Estimated to have cost around £1.2 million it was a star studded affair which included guests like Oliver Stone and ex-UN Secretary general Kofi Annan.
Despite earlier rumours that Catherine’s dress would be made by Welsh designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel, who designed Diana, Princess of Wales, famous wedding dress, she actually opted for an ivory sheath gown by Christian Lacroix. It was beaded duchess satin with a fishtail chantilly lace train. The low cut bodice was accented with ‘stardust’ to add an extra sparkle and her beautiful diamond tiara was borrowed from famous jewellery designer Fred Leighton. Catherine’s celtic wedding ring was bought from a small Welsh family jewellers in Aberystwyth.
After the ceremony guests tucked in to a ‘modest’ seven course meal which included New England clam chowder, fois gras and apple pie. The wedding was a culmination of 20 months of dating between the couple and to this date they are still going strong.
