With the cost of weddings rocketing higher every year, and with most of us already owning all the towels and toasters we’ll ever need, it was only a matter of time, really, before someone came with the idea of getting the guests to pay for the wedding, wasn’t it? And someone has. The imaginatively named youbuymywedding.com is a variation on the honeymoon lists we’ve been seeing so much of lately, but instead of paying for your honeymoon, your guests are paying for – go on, guess! – your actual wedding.
Once the bride and groom have registered with the site, guests can log on and pledge money in a variety of different categories including invitations, flowers, the bride’s dress, groom’s outfit, reception, car hire, hotel rooms, honeymoon, rings and cake.
It sounds like a great idea for bride and grooms who’d love to have the wedding of their dreams, but can’t quite afford it, but as a guest, how would you feel about paying for your own invitation?
