Actress Kate Winslet may have two weddings under her belt these days, but with pictures from her second marriage to director Sam Mendes kept a closely guarded secret, it's her first marriage, to Jim Threapleton, which makes her an iconic bride.
Favouring the "no fuss" approach, Kate and Jim shunned the now traditional media circus associated with celebrity weddings for a low-key affair in Kate's home town of Reading, on November 22nd, 1998. Married by the same priest who'd baptised Kate as a baby, the couple then famously served up bangers and mash at a reception in the local pub. One thing Kate didn't play down, however, was her wedding gown, and she looked stunning in an Alexander McQueen creation in an Edwardian style, covered in antique beads. Sadly, the marriage only lasted three years, during which Kate gave birth to a daughter, Mia.
