I went to a friends gig the other day, where she captivated the room with a cabaret of the best songs: camp and hilarious, she did Liza Minelli proud. But within her 25 minute set, from being laugh out loud funny, she brought me to tears when she chose this song.
‘Here, There and Everywhere’ by The Beatles is a gem from the 1966 album Revolver, and whilst The Beatles’ version is good (of course), after hearing a woman sing it I would err towards Sissal or Emmylou Harris’s version. As long as it’s done with subtlety and not drowned in syrup (avoid the Celine Dion cover then) I guarantee there won’t be a dry eye in the house. Even better if you have a friend with a guitar to sing it for you…
