Hen and stag parties might be part of the tradition of the Great British wedding but I know I’m not alone on Bridalwave in finding the usual pre-wedding blowouts to be rather tawdry. There are tons of alternatives offered as a way to get the girls or guys together, from Spas and pampering to weekend breaks. But would you opt for a joint celebration?
My boyfriend is a huge advocate of the idea of a pre wedding party together, with all the boys and girls together at one big event. I must admit, the more I muse on the topic the more it appeals. Spending the last days of ‘freedom’, as it were, with the one you love just seems to make sense.
But would you be willing to give up your last blow out with the girls who got you this far? There are plenty of great things behind the tradition – celebrating your friendships and all your favourite girls toasting your impending union. And there’s always the reception if you’re after a joint party with your new spouse.
One thing to be said for a joint celebration though is the avoidance of the sort of debauchery that we all hear about. No inadvertant slip ups of flirting or male strippers making the bride squirm. That sort of thing does sound like my worst nightmare. For me, at least, I think I’ll be having an all inclusive knees up to toast past and present.
What do you think? Are you strapping on your L plates as we speak, or will you be mingling while your fiancé gets the drinks in?
