Avril Lavigne’s 2006 wedding to musician Deryck Whibley was notable, not just for the singer’s relatively young age (she was just 21 at the time of the ceremony, on July 15th), but because the usually sullen skater girl ditched her trademark, grungy look for the day, opting instead for a stunning, floor-length gown by Vera Wang. Avril changed into a second Vera Wang gown for her reception, while her four bridesmaids wore pink – a far cry from the kind of look most people were expecting.
The ceremony took place outdoors at a private estate in California, and the couple had their first dance to the Goo Goo Dolls’ ‘Iris’. Avril later admitted that she’d considered a more unusual, goth-style wedding, but had been dreaming about a fairytale wedding since she was a child, and decided to go ahead and treat herself. “I wanted to be a princess,” she said.
