The Knot calls this dress daring and goes on to say it has ‘an incredible mulitpatterned skirt and corset’. That could be taken either way couldn’t it. Very ambiguous of them indeed. Anyway, the designer Pnina Tornai calls this dress the ‘Noir and Blanc’ – don’t you love the way the French language makes everything sound nicer? What they all mean is there’s a whole bunch of differently printed fabrics piled one on top of the other topped off with an embroidered corset. This type of gown rarely works even in white so to do this to it, is, well, a touch mental. And to ensure that it got committed as a Frock Horror they threw in a sequinned black veil, a feathered fan (at least I hope that isn’t part of the gown) and net sleeves with satin bows. Less is more is clearly a phrase the designer struggled with.
