Thread dress.JPG
A lot of Thread's dresses look like night dresses to me, but this one is particularly pretty and cool-looking. I don't mean fashionable-cool, I mean good for summer-cool.

With a tiered bottom and an organza sash at the waist, it's simple, but also pretty. Perfect for a destination wedding. It costs $545 from Thread Design.

18D016OLIP.jpgIf you're going for a more casual wedding look instead of a morning suit with all the trimmings, you can experiment much more with the look of your suit as a groom. Picking something which flatters your shape and makes you look ever so dashing is a must, but so is being able to afford it.

Thankfully there are some effortlessly stylish suits out there with eye-poppingly low price tags. This Ramsey suit from Oli is no exception. The suit is available as separates (especially handy for getting the perfect fit top and bottom) and costs just £90 in total, meaning it could equally be suitable for any wedding guests at a formal do as well. The best part is, it looks twice the price at the very least.

dragontailgreen.jpgI love the idea of making a statement with bridal jewellery, but sometimes it seems a little too much to have huge earrings and a big ol' tiara. A simple way to add some stunning sparkle without blinding your partner is a brooch.

This dragonfly brooch from Angelic designs is a really quirky piece, made from the ever popular Swarovski crystals. Ideal for a wedding with nature as its theme, this could double up as a fun hair piece instead. It's available online from Angelic Designs' new website for just £12.50.

FloPercy.JPGVintage specialists Flo & Percy have just launched a new range of vintage jewellery. 191-2001.jpgLet's face it, flower girls are mainly there to make everyone say 'Aww', and why wouldn't they? If your favourite little princess is accompanying you down the aisle she might just be the only one you let get away with stealing some of the limelight.

Rather than the sometimes tacky offerings of tiaras for junior bridesmaids, this white floral headpiece is a fantastic alternative. Perfect for nature themed weddings, the white rose buds will match perfectly with any dress or colour scheme. It's available from Exclusively Weddings for $29.

in_style.jpgI've just been perusing the winter issue of InStyle Weddings, which my wedding-planning cousin passed on to me, and I found a really sweet idea for a favour.

Rather than showering the bride and groom with rice, petals, or confetti, there's an article in which the guests were given silver handbells for friends and family to ring. Tied to each bell was a card with good wishes for the newlyweds. The wedding in InStyle featured 170 bells, which aside from being expensive, would surely be an auditory nightmare, but I'd certainly keep this in mind if you're planning a small affair.

Tulle ballgowns are the stuff of many dreams and this one certainly doesn't dissapoint with a beaded organza bodice, gathered tulle skirt and sweep train. I've no doubt it'll look amazing, but are white ballgowns a little cliche these days? That's for you to decide...

Last week's bustle dress got a split vote. You may have recognised the designer as Elizabeth Emanuel for her Art of Elegance range at BHS. The dress costs £495.

Alex ring.JPGApparently some men are paying up to $10,000 to create the ultimate marriage proposal for their lucky ladies says a recent New York Times report. Six trends have been identified including destination proposals with elaborately planned weekends away and 'capturing the moment' with a photographer nearby to capture the proposal on film. I've put the list over the cut but I'm more interested to learn if your beau went to great lengths to get you to say yes?

Ardanaiseig.JPGScotland's Ardanaiseig hotel has just won the title of Intimate Wedding Hotel of the Year at the Scottish Hotel of the Year Awards 2008. Though most of us won't have heard of this no doubt riveting award gathering, this Highlands hotel certainly boasts some lovely scenery with a backdrop of the appropriately named Loch Awe and the Argyll glens.

Weddings are held in the loch side amphitheatre by the Lost Gardens or on the hotel's private island. Guest accomodation can be provided for up to 32 guests (with plenty of cottages and B&Bs nearby for more) and the whole hotel can also be hired exclusively. View more details of weddings at Ardanaiseig here.

Destination weddings can be difficult when it comes to selecting a dress but this one should be pretty perfect if you're jetting off somewhere warm. It's slim fitting so won't need its own plane seat, has spaghetti straps and flowing pleats on the long skirt so you shouldn't overheat in too many layers. Interest is added in the underbust band of embroidery which is a pretty but unobtrusive addition.

I rather love Rilo Kiley. Beautiful lyrics, lovely melodies and Jenny Lewis's amazing voice. I Never, from their album More Adventurous is a proper love song, with a swirling melody to which you can twirl around the dancefloor to the joy of all that behold you. Probably.

The only problem with it that I can imagine is that the chorus consists of the line "Cause I never" 27 times (followed by "loved somebody the way I loved you"). This would drive more senior members of my family round the bend (I can hear my mum now, shouting, "You never loved anyone the way you love him! I get it! Sheesh!").

Originality: 9

Tears-from-your-Mum Factor: 7 (and they might be tears of frustration)

image3xl.jpgThese shoes are certainly not going to be to everyone's tastes, but if you're a man with a keen eye for retro fashion they might float your boat.

In a great looking cream leather, they'd made a great statement pair if you're going for an out of the ordinary pair. They're not too far off a pair of stylish spats either. Available from ASOS Man for a great price of £45.

Miss Selfridge formal.jpgGoing all out formal can be both the most fun weddings and the most stressful for all involved. Knowing just how formal to go is quite a challenge, especially if you tend towards casual in every day life.

You needn't splash out an exorbitant amount on a glamorous outfit, though, as there's plenty of dressy options on the high street.

0511_083010190373_LRG.jpgWhen you've chosen the perfect suit for your wedding day, you don't want to ruin the perfectly tailored formal look with shabby accessories. A stylish belt is a great option for a more casual suit instead of braces.

If you're opting for brown leather shoes this is especially perfect for co-ordinating the whole outfit, whether your suit is black, grey or brown. Just don't forget to tuck your shirt in for the photo opportunities. Get this belt from the Debenhams website for £22.
