Expectant Bride – the wedding shop purely for pregnant brides

By admin on April 11th, 2008 1 comment

Expectant Bride.JPGMany years ago, a shop such as Expectant Bride would be absolutely unthinkable. However, the first wedding shop purely for pregnant brides is now open for business. The designers are trained to estimate the size of the bride’s bump to ensure the dress is a good fit and ensures a flattering shape.

The idea was thought up by Tracey Wilkinson when she found herself in need of a maternity wedding dress and has since helped a further 150 brides. Four designers are stocked with prices ranging from £175 to £1200. Considering weddings often take a long time to plan, it’s hardly surprising that some couples find themselves expecting and pregnancy often prompts others to tie the knot. So, if you’re baking a baby, you know where to go! [source – thanks Claire!]

My daugher married last year. We ordered and paid for a dress from Expectant Bride. We arranged an appointment to collect it, but it was cancelled at the last minute, as Tracey said that her daughter had been rushed to hospital. Obviously we were sympathetic, and, as my daughter had travelled from North Wales we arranged for Tracey to post the dress to her so that it could be shortened close to her home. There followed a sequence of promises to post the dress, that she had posted the dress, that it must have got lost, and she’d post a replacement, and when pressed, she provided a post office tracking number which proved to be invalid. All this took time, and, as she was very plausible, we waited as the wedding got very close. Two weeks before the wedding we approached the manufacturers who were wonderful. They sold us a replacement dress which arrived the next day, just in time for alterations in time for the wedding. The manufacturers also said they hadn’t dealt with Tracey for some time. We haven’t had a refund, and, being busy, I’m afraid I’d written it off to experience. I was distressed to be contacted last week by a lady who was having trouble getting a reply from Expectant Bride when trying to arrange to pick up the dress she had ordered and paid for! (She had been able to contact me as she had found the “thank you” review I had left on the manufacturers facebook page.)
