New trend: Fake wedding cake rental

CakeRental.JPGThis cake looks great, there’s just one little catch. It’s fake. The whole thing is not cake but a faux version designed to look like a fabulous multi-tiered wedding cake. Fake cakes are made from styrofoam bases and covered in fondant with gumpaste decorations to give the illusion of the real thing – these even come with space for a single slice to pass off for the cutting. The couple can then serve standard cakes but how you would explain the lack of decoration away I’m not sure. Check out CakeRental for more designs and info, including this style which was recently featured on Rachael Ray.

I’m not enthused by the idea of this fake cake trend, are you? But then, we are all about the cake eating here.
