I first heard of John Gottman via, I think, Malcolm Gladwell’s wonderful book, Blink. I don’t usually have much time for marriage analysis, but Gottman’s work seemed to be inherently sensible and, even better, interesting.
Gottman claims to be able to predict whether a couple’s marriage will last simply by talking to them and you can check out his theories into a new edition of his book, Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. It’s described as a “revolutionary guide to show couples how to create an emotionally intelligent relationship – and keep it on track”.
