As hope for Jade Goody’s prognosis took a dramatic turn for the worse last week, it quickly emerged that the cancer-stricken reality star is to realise one last dream in her short and controversy-prone life: to marry her long-term partner Jack Tweed. The couple announced their plans to marry yesterday, following what we’re told was a Valentine’s day engagement.
Jade explained how Jack responded almost immediately to the news that her cancer had become terminal with a spontanious and down-to-earth proposal.
He was quoted as saying: ‘Right then we’re getting married. You’re a special woman, I love you and I would be honoured to call you my wife. And I don’t care if it’s just for a few weeks’.” The couple have opted for a local wedding in the tranquil surroundings of Down Hall country house hotel in Essex. Jade’s dress, which she picked out in Harrods yesterday, is being donated to her by Mohammed Al Fayed.
Whatever your feelings are on the outspoken reality star, I can’t help but be touched by this news. I admire Jade for not bowing to the pressure on her to ‘suffer in silence’, and can’t imagine a more appropriate send-off for somebody who was a nobody until she let cameras into her life.
