Essential accessories for summer brides

summer-wedding-essentials.jpgGetting married abroad in a location with guaranteed sun rules out certain problems that UK-based brides face at any time of year: you won’t need to worry about having umbrellas and wellie-boots on standby, for example. But it does pose some issues of its own: do you have a pair of sunglasses you’re happy to wear throughout the day, a supply of good quality sun cream and ways to keep cool when you start to sweat? If not, check out our list of must-have summer essentials for the jet-set bride.

Sun hat

Make sure you bring an elegant sun hat of a similar shade to your dress. This ‘Jemima’ hat by Melissa Odabash at Net-a-Porter is certainly no seaside-shop souvenir, but you’ll be wearing it on holidays for years to come! For a cheaper selection of similar styles, check out Monsoon/Accessorize.

An obvious point, but if you don’t have a favourite pair already, bear in mind that it could take some time to find a pair that suit you and that you’d be happy to wear in the photos (last thing you want is to be squinting at the sun in all your wedding pics!) These ones are from Vera Wang’s spring 2009 runway collection and would make an excellent investment piece.

A particular must-have for the fair skinned, have one of these on hand for when it gets too bright. These lovely light and floaty scarves are by fairtrade fashion label Nomads, where you’ll also find some cool and attracive sun dresses at excellent prices.

Water spray

Have your bridesmaids keep a bottle of this on hand in case you start sweating before the vows! You’ll love them for it. This Evian spray can is available online for £5.27

Summery clutch bag

If you’ve having a beach wedding, you probably won’t want anything too chintzy. I think this sand-coloured FCUK bag with wooden clutch would be perfect. £65 at Oli

Sun cream

Another one that goes without saying if you’re fair-skinned, however I can personally recommend the range from Green People, which smells a lot more pleasant than the usual creams, as it’s made without the harmful chemicals found in some brands, which can damage the ecosystem of your beautiful wedding location! It’s also paraben free, and every bit as effective as the standard brands, too. £15.61 at Natural Collection

Flip flops

You could go for a pair of designer pair like these ones by Dior, but if you baulk at the idea of spending £60 on flip flop, check out Accessorize’s range which always includes pretty and tasteful styles at great prices.
