In case you were wondering, this is the sort of outfit that Victorian ladies got hitched in. It’s not to everybody’s tastes, and it’s certainly a lot more staid than some of today’s daringly low-cut dresses and detachable skirts. But it’s beautifully made, and decorated with stunningly well-preserved crystal buttons.
The two-piece dress was recently sold in the Honeychild Vintage ebay shop; a seller of clothing that more than deserves the term ‘vintage’ (definitely no 80s high street clobber here!). It went for £312, which I suspect is a real bargain, as it’s a genuine museum-piece, and I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for future items. Currently, she’s got a rather fabulous late ’30s wedding dress on sale, so get bidding if you want to be in with a chance.
