The Obama wedding, in pictures

obama-wedding.jpgUtterly exhausted but clearly very happy, Barack and Michelle Obama posed for this charming photograph at the end of their wedding in October 1992. The pictures taken during the day offer a glimpse into a unique pairing that has been described by friends as “like putting hydrogen and oxygen together to create an unbelievable life force.” Often relaxed, the bride and groom are laid-back style personified in this fascinating set of images.

Read on over the jump for an insight into the wedding of the world’s most influential couple!

barack-obama-wedding1.jpgThe first lady-to-be opted for an off-the-shoulder, sweetheart necklined dress with a princess-length veil and chapel train. The style emphasises her feminine figure beautifully, drawing attention to her slender neck and shoulders. It also has romantic, fairytale overtones, as the bodice style is very similar to that worn in the sleeping beauty cartoons. If this is a style that appeals to you, it’s being very much “brought back” by Disney Bridal.

Although she married in the early ’90s; a decade dominated by minimalism, Michelle was “on” this playful and romantic trend long before it became a mainstream choice!

Bridesmaids and attendants wore all monochrome costumes, setting off the bride’s look beautifully.

Signing the register, the couple opt for traditional poses but manage to look relaxed and natural as they make it official.
