YAY OR NAY: Short wedding dresses

Shorter skirts are being hailed as the big bridal trend of 2009, with many of the big designers from Alfred Angelo to Vera Wang bringing out beautiful dresses to tempt daring brides who don’t mind showing a bit of leg. But what do you think: do frocks like Suzanne Neville’s ‘Antoinette’ turn your head from traditional length gowns or will it have to be a a full-length floor-sweeper for you?

I like 50s style dresses, so I think a short dress would look great. I’m not planning on getting married in a church, so the whole grand entrance in a huge gown doesn’t really suit me. I think I’d be much more relaxed in a swingy knee length dress, otherwise I’d be worried about the train dragging on the floor, or tripping over it. I’m pretty clumsy.

Plus, if you’re wearing a long dress, who will see your pretty shoes?

*grin* same here Siany. I also think it’s no coincidence that the ‘rise’ of shorter skirts has happened just as we finally start to see bridal shoes appearing on the market that you actually wouldn’t WANT to hide!

YAY! I’m getting married next year and I so want a short dress to show off my great shoes!
But I still haven’t found the one great, feminine, playful wedding dress. Oh well. But YAY!

I love the idea of a shorter dress – especially for a destination wedding. I am getting married in March over in the Dominican Republic but I chickened out at the last minute and bought a long but very light dress. My reason was that we were having a reception and vow renewal when we come back and I want the wow factor then.

Love shorter dresses, especially if they fit well with the rest of the wedding. I was recently maid of honour to my friend who had the most gorgeous short wedding dress, perfect for her wedding and build (http://www.davidmmcneil.com/blog/jennie_matts_afternoon_tea_in_london/ for pics). Dress was the absolute talk of the town (Candy Anthony in Oxo Tower for those interested). Just perfect and highly recommended for 50s glamour.

Where or where do I get the dress in the bottom right hand corner???? I do LOVE it.

To answer my own question, after much research, the dress in the bottom right hand corner is Vivienne Westwood, Gold label and a shorter version of the dress from the Sex and the city film. sold at Net a porter for approx £4500!
