Make your own authentic vintage wedding dress

By Andrea Petrou on September 8th, 2009 2 comments

vintage pattern.JPGMany years ago, before off the rack and bridal designers, it was a tradition for brides to ask their mothers or a close female relative to make their wedding dress for them.

This of course has faded out as many women have full time work and are not dependent on sewing as they were in the Victorian era.

However, with many of us becoming more creative and more aware of the economic climate, it seems this trend is slowly trickling back in with companies offering patterns for wedding dresses.

I love this 1950s pattern from So vintage Patterns, which I think would make a gorgeous dress, and it’s only $95.

Now this is an American company that ships to the UK, but remember the sizes are different over there so please double check them.

Because the patterns are vintage the company also checks each one for completeness, for the pattern pieces and the instruction sheet. In many cases the vintage patterns are uncut and factory folded. So you won’t have to worry about missing parts.

If you’re brave enough to do this please do send your pictures in. We would love to see them.
