How to have a Sex And The City themed wedding

SATC 2 New York Fashion Week.JPGThe second Sex and The City film is looming with many of us getting excited about the release in May. However, if you’re getting married and are still stuck on a theme then the first film, where Carrie ties the knot, could prove to be a brilliant inspiration.

We tell you how to have a Sex and The City inspired wedding day.

The invites
Although your other half may not be too pleased about the idea of a SATC theme, then you may have to convince him that invites featuring Cosmopolitans, Manolo Blahnik shoes or handbags really are a popular choice for the modern bride. Choose something that screams Sex and The City to you and personalise invites with quotes from the film. If your other half puts his foot down then you could always compromise with Sex and The City colours such as hot pink or monochromes as well as adding a few feathers for extra SATC style.

The wedding dress
For her first (and unfortunate) wedding to Mr Big Carrie opted for a huge designer frock by Vera Wang, but when she finally said I Do it was a straight style suit frock. If you want to follow these two looks then many places stock this style of dress including Losner’s Bride and Hollywood Dreams. However, if you really to bring the essence of the film to life then we suggest going for a 50s style short dress, which will make you feel like an everyday SATC girl. Get your bridesmaids to fit in with this style by picking knee length frocks or throw caution to the wind and let them pick whatever they want, to create that individual SATC style we love so much. If you’re feeling brave then also give a nod to the 2010 feather theme and Carrie’s headpiece with a feather fascinator instead of a tiara

The Groom
Get him dressed up to the nines in a morning suit complete with waistcoat and cravat. After all SATC men are always chic. If he agrees, we think a hot pink waistcoat would be perfect for this theme. Team up his groomsmen with black waistcoats to make sure your groom really stands out.

The decoration
Go for quirky place markers and favours, such as whimisical bracelet charms or wine bottle stoppers. Floral arrangements should also be oversized and filled with lots of glitz and bling.

Carry on the theme by calling tables after SATC characters, shoes, bags or drinks, or mix and match for that perfect compromise. Serve pretty cocktails, such as Bellinis and Cosmopolitans.

The food
While you might want to serve up a sophisticated dinner menu you can still add a fun twist to dessert by offering ice-cream cones with lots of different candy toppings, as well as dainty cupcakes, much loved by Carrie and Miranda.
