A humanoid robot named I-Fairy acts as a witness at the wedding ceremony between Tomohiro Shibata and Satoko Inoue in Tokyo

Religious ceremonies can cause upset in some relationships. One party may want a blessing while the other one may want to to go for a ceremony without it all. If your having this nightmare then why not go for something completely wacky and get a robot to marry you instead?

No we haven’t gone crazy, it’s really happened for couple in Japan who decided to be married by a four-foot tall robot.

Inoue and Tomohiro Shibata were pronounced man and wife by a colourful robot with flashing eyes and pigtails called i-Fairy.

Dressed up with a flower headpiece and a new ordained programme, the robot was the first of its kind to conduct a legal wedding and even went as far as instructing the groom to lift the bride’s veil for the kiss.

Interested? We are, although we wish we could take it home after to help with the washing up.
