Wedding trends change as often as the latest fashion looks and are influenced by what goes on at wedding shows, as well as on the catwalk. And such changes in what’s hot also have an effect on what wedding flowers will be popular.
So, here’s our list of the top wedding flower trends to look out for in 2012.
Imagine walking down the aisle with the scent of roses trailing after you. Florists are going to be adding all sorts of aromatic herbs to sweet-smelling bouquets this year. Flowers such as roses, peonies and lilies are expected to feature heavily alongside herbs such as mint, rosemary and oregano!
There’s been a lot of purple showcased on bridal catwalks and this is going to be reflected in the flower choices couples are making for their weddings. Karen Barnes, Head of Floral Gifting at Interflora, says: “Purple is going to feature heavily in bouquets and other wedding flowers this year. Look for rich, opulent purples and pastel lavenders. This could also be tied in with other decorations and bridesmaids’ dresses.”
Wedding flowers have been heavily influenced by the royal weddings in 2011. Because of Kate Middleton’s beautiful bouquet of lily of the valley, myrtle and hornbeams, the simplicity of white and green is going to see a surge in popularity.
Karen Barnes says: “White and green are always popular with brides because they are so classic and timeless, but what will change is the horticultural materials florists will be using in these bouquets.”
This is a trend that will continue to be popular throughout the coming year. Pastel shades of roses, carnations and tulips look great when mixed with pale greens and whites such as narcissus, rosemary and salal. These bouquets also tend to smell fantastic too and the combination of sweet-smelling flowers and herbs can really add something special to a wedding venue.
