Karl Lagerfeld, the creative genius at Chanel, showed his support for the legalisation of gay marriage in France yesterday by sending two models down the catwalk in couture bridal gowns.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Lagerfeld : ”I don’t even understand the debate. Since 1904 (in France) the church and state have been separate,” and that all religions should tolerate gay marriage. That said, perhaps a bit strange, Lagerfeld has said he opposes allowing gay couples to father children born through artificial insemination.
The veteran couturier also had his youngest muse, three-year-old Hudson Kroenig – the son of long-term Chanel muse, Brad Kroenig – accompany the models as they walked down the aisle catwalk holding hands.
French President Francois Hollande plans to legalise gay marriage and thus allow same-sex couples to adopt and conceive children.
