Sex and the City has hit our fashion shores in waves of frenzied excitement. And it's not long to wait now with the film hitting cinemas tomorrow. However, if you're a bride-to-be we know you won't have as much time as others to really concentrate on the film so why not combine the two and have a SATC themed hen night?

To coincide with the release of the film the Hyatt Regency London - The Churchill has created an afternoon tea package complete with a Manhattan-style, reflecting the girls. Treats you can expect to see are cocktails (natch), mini-burgers and New York Bagels, there's also strawberry-flavoured chocolate pink stiletto inspired by Carrie's shoe obsession and a mini pink strawberry cupcake inspired by Charlotte's love of baking.

But don't get too tipsy on those cocktails as after the delights of the tea you'll be whisked off to a nearby cinema in a chauffer driven car. Oooer.

Top five quirky hen night ideas

Comments (0)

hen-night.gif

Hen parties can be a little bit similar. You go out locally or abroad, drink, have dinner and then maybe end up in a club afterwards. Now there's absolutely nothing wrong with this at all, after all there's nothing better than grabbing your girlfriends and having a wild night, right?

A few weeks back we put together a list of top honeymoon destinations for you to visit. However we know some of you don't want to do the whole "traditional" hen night fun, we therefore decided that we'd put together a list of quirky hen night ideas to help you have that unique night you're looking for.

1. The Psychic
If you don't want a night of partying, drinks and male strippers then you could gather your nearest and dearest and head down to see professional Psychic Lady Lilac.

This Psychic, real name Jacqui Cosham is said to have over 20 years experience of tarot card readings, spiritual communication and psychometry. She has also read for a range of actors, although we can't t tell you who as we're unfortunately not psychics.

She does a range of packages for Hen's and will travel to hotel function rooms to hired areas within pubs and club within the M25.

Hens can pick from packages including tarot reading per person (30mins to an hour), birthstone for each guest or group or individual medium sessions.

She can also arrange a stay at a London hotel, incorporate the readings with massages, facials, manicures or pedicure and also sort out limousine rides and bar/club tickets.

Now I haven't actually been to see her, but I will be trying to get an appointment soon so I can tell you a little bit more about the readings. And if she tells me I'm going to be the next queen of England then I may even be writing to you from my royal chamber.

2. The Festival
As we all know there are many festivals around the summer from the famous Glastonbury and Reading to dance festivals such as Global Gathering and Creamfields.
Ok we know what you're thinking, rain, mud, queues for the smelly portaloos and a lack of hygiene. However, there's a huge hen and stag following beginning with this idea as it lasts for at least two days. Yes you will have to pitch your tent, but think about the great music you'll get to listen to and hey, wellies are always a huge trend over summer festival months too.

3. Charlie's Angels
Give your hen night an extra dimension by surprising the hens with a mission to accomplish. The Stag and Hen Group will do as Charlie does and, irrelevant of location, will challenge you a list of tasks to complete. Failure to do so will result in serious forfeits. Missions might include collecting obscure items such as medallions, wigs, and bad-taste socks from unsuspecting victims.

4. Get down with the surf
Fancy yourself and your chums as a cool surfer girls? If so head down to Woolacombe in North Devon. Stay in accommodation facing the sea and also hone your surfer girl stance, with ex-Iron Man turned surf instructor, Nick Thorn, for a group surf lesson. If you're feeling selfish you can also just get a one-to-one while the other girl's chill out on the 3 mile stretch of sandy beach.

5. US high school cheerleading
Ever watched those US films with the popular teenage cheerleaders and wished you could have been the same? Well now's your chance.
You and the girls will get your chance to try your hand at the hilarious sport of cheerleading. Big across the pond and making a breakthrough in the UK, learning the pom-pom shaking skills is both fun and more challenging than you would think, plus it's something a little different for your hen party.

GoHen.com has introduced cheerleading classes to their hen party activity list. The classes are specially designed to cater for everyone from the complete novice to those who see themselves as a bit of a mover. All your equipment is included, and the friendly instructor will provide you with full instruction and guidance. You'll also receive a free bottle of bubbly (dependant on destination) and the entire group will receive a certificate of commendation.

Give us a H-E-N-P-A-R-T-Y!

SATC 2 New York Fashion Week.JPG
We've given you so many different hints and tips in the build up to your big day that we actually forgot one of the most important pre-wedding events, and that of course is your hen night/weekend. Hen parties were traditionally a way to get the girls together before the wedding and to give the bride company on the night before her big day. However, these have now turned into huge events with some brides-to-be taking their friends off for a whole week in order to celebrate those "last days of freedom". Other's however have chosen to use their days and evenings to relax in spas alongside their relatives and close friends.

We've put together a top list of places to go on your hen weekend/week or night.

London
If you don't live in the capital then this is an excellent excuse to visit, and ladies who live here, don't turn your noses up just yet because there are hundreds of things to do here. Take the girls and head for afternoon tea at the Ritz or brunch at Claridges, or be a bit daring and enjoy a spot of wine tasting at Vinopolis. There are also some great spas in this area, which you can visit during the day before painting the town red at night.

Valencia
If you want sun, sand, culture and good place to party then this Spanish town, not too far from Barcelona is perfect. It's modern and chic and the open air clubs are out of this world. However, as tourists don't venture to this part, instead opting for it's more famous cousin, there is still a wide range of culture meaning you'll get authentic food and service. And we're talking from personal experience with this one.

New York
What can we say about this perfect place that hasn't been said before. It's hip, it's glam and perfect for those who have an extra bit of cash they want to splash out. Grab the girls and have a Sex and The City weekend away.

Edinburgh
Fancy a night away but not too far from home? Then Edinburgh could be just the place. You can either drive, depending on where your based, or get a cheap flight with a budget airline such as Ryanair. Visit in the summer if you can to really make the most of the city's festivals and nightlife.

Paris
This has only recently become a top-spot for groups of girls. Although the city hasn't shed off it's romantic side, more and more people are venturing to France's capital to enjoy the architecture and cosy cafe's the city has to offer. Especially now the Eurostar means we can get there quicker than ever.

Wales
Why not grab the girls and have a Gavin and Stacey themed night. Visit the sitcom's hotspots at night and the beach by day. Wales also has some beautiful countryside and cottages for those not looking for a big weekend away. Grab your hiking boots and take advantage of some of the welsh walks.

cocktail.jpgWant a hen night with a difference? Like designer chic, shopping and cocktails? Then head down to Harvey Nichols.

The upper class designer store in Knightsbridge has launched a cocktail masterclass at its new look Fifth Floor Champagne bar where mixologist Stani Visciano will guide you through the classic cocktail combinations, before giving you free reign of the bar so you can try out what you've learnt.

But make sure you've paid attention as you'll then have to try your own mixes over lunch.

If you're not too tipsy you can then hit the floors of the store to do some pre wedding or celebratory shopping. Bliss.

40 winks.jpgIf you've always wanted to be a vintage starlet then we think we might have the perfect idea for your hen night.

Boutique hotel 40 Winks has launched Tart, a new event, which will make you feel like a vintage starlet.

Not only do you get sandwiches, yummy cakes and chocolates, but you'll also be made-up and given advice by vintage beauty experts Lipstick and Curls and make-up artist to the stars, Bella Cruikshank.

You can try one or two (if you're feeling brave) of the hotel's cocktails or a glass of bubbly and slip on a 50s evening gown from a selection from Vogue favourites, vintage secret with expert style advice provided by Naomi and Fleur.

'Tart' will also play host to some of London's brightest and coolest young designers like award winning milliner Katherine Elizabeth and the likes of Minna, whose creations incorporate lace, brooches and buttons found at antique markets. Expect jewels, lingerie and lots of lovely shoes, which you can buy as a reminder of the day.

And if this all this proves a little too taxing, relax with a massage from the well trained hands of Xhilarate, or try a refreshing fruit or herbal tea from the new Lipton Infusions collection.

The event costs £60 per person and will run on Saturday 14 November and Saturday 12 December. But don't worry if you're not getting married until next year as this event will also take place monthly throughout 2010.

Malvern spa launches Sparkle Day Package

Malvern spa.jpgBrides that don't have a sweet tooth and want to give chocolate a skip will love these new packages from Malvern Spa.

The venue, located at the foot of the picturesque Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, is offering a Sparkle Day package.

Throughout November and December, brides and their friends can use all the spa's facilities and have lunch in the bistro before being pampered with a ESPA Skin hydrator facial, a colour change manicure and a mini pedicure.

Each guest will also get a £5 voucher redeemable against Jessica retail products so you can take that gorgeous new polish home with you (or pass it on to us).

Prices start at £110.00 per person. Call the spa on 01684 898290, or visit the website for more details and to book.

Landmark_Hotel_--_Entrance.JPGYesterday we bought you saucy and today we're bringing you a sweet hen alternative.

The Landmark London hotel has decided to help brides to pile on the calories (for the record we think this is worth it) and introduced a chocolate themed afternoon tea.

The chocolate treats are served between 3pm and 6pm in the eight-storey, glass-roofed central atrium of the Winter Garden restaurant where you'll also be treated to sweet live music from a pianist or harpist and surrounded in exotic palm trees.

And if this isn't enough wait until you hear about the menu, which includes marble cupcakes, white chocolate and mint macaroons, chocolate choux buns, baked white chocolate cheesecake, and some chocolate nibbles too.

We think this day out is a bargain for £35 per person. Or £40 for brides that want a glass of Taittinger Champagne.

Visit the Landmark London Hotel website for more information and to book.

Bridal Lin.jpgIf you want a hen party with a bit of sauce, then head down to the Met Bar.

The bar has teamed up with seductive lingerie brand, the Modern Courtesan to create the perfect sassy afternoon date; 'Seduction Classes' served with a delectable slice of cake on the side.

The afternoon includes a welcome Modern Courtesan cocktail, an aphrodisiac-inspired Afternoon De-Light menu and titillating entertainment.

Jo King, founder of the London School of Striptease will be conducting an exclusive workshop entitled 'The Art of Striptease' and author and presenter Bethanie Lunn will also be teaching you how to walk in high heels with real sex appeal.

As a finale to the class, all guests are invited to visit the 'Seduction Boudoir', offering an exclusive opportunity to acquire weapons of mass seduction to take home.

Tickets are priced at £50.00 per person and must be purchased in advance. But there is a catch. You'll have to decide to have a last minute celebration, the event takes place on Saturday 17 October between 3pm to 5pm. Sorry brides to be, but we like to keep you on your toes.

cocktail_girls.jpgIf you want a hen party with a difference and have always wanted to learn how to mix your favourite cocktails from the classic Sex and the City Cosmopolitan to the original Mojito with a twist - now is your chance.

The Snug Bars has launched cocktail classes to teach you how to shake and make some classic drinks.

You'll get an introduction to the history of cocktails before learning how to mix and free pour (that's pouring spirits without using measures). You'll also be taught how to make four cocktails of your choice from The Snug's cocktail menu.

To ensure you're not drinking on a full stomach your group will also get a Sharing Platter to eat while you shake your drinks.

The Snug cocktail classes are £30 per person and are available at both the East Road and Lensfield Road bars.

Hen night packages at Imagine Health & Spa

doubletreatmentroom.jpgWe know we talk about spas quite a bit over here at Bridalwave but we really do think they are a perfect way to unwind, relax and get rid of any planning stress.

Imagine Health & Spa in North Norfolk obviously thinks in the same way as us as it's just launched an array of Hen Party packages including use of the spas facilities and the deluxe thermal suite

Brides can start the day with champagne and chocolates, a consultation with an Imagine therapist to select the perfect treatment before unwinding in the dedicated relaxation room.

Depending on the package each hen party member will receive a 30 or 60 minute treatment.
The spa also offers a free bareMinerals wedding make-up demonstration for everyone in parties of four or more plus for groups with ten or more guests than the bride-to-be gets their Image Health & Spa experience free.

If you want a day of pampering and relaxing with your friends before the big day then head up to Scotland.

The Spa at the new five star Blythswood Square Hotel has the UK's first indigenous Scottish treatments designed by Spa Director, Matt Laird in conjunction with luxury organic product house, ila.

The Spa will also feature Scotland's first Seaweed Bath complete with organic seaweed sourced direct from the Hebrides and a decadent Dark Pool where guests will be able to relax in warm waters under the gentle light of a crystal chandelier.

Spa packages start from £135 for a spa day and £285 for a one night spa break.

Alternative hen nights: The tea party

Comments (0)

mand.jpgIf you're planning a hen daytime event and have decided to invite everyone from your wild best friend to meek Aunt Mabel then you'll know how hard it is to please everyone.

Well we've come up with a solution that may just help.

Fashionable fragrance company Jo Malone and The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel have teamed up to offer hens across London, or anyone that wants to travel to the capital, an afternoon of tea, cakes and food to tickle everyone's taste buds.

The event, which is in celebration of Jo Malone's new fragrance, Vanilla & Anise Cologne, has had its menu designed by CChef Patissier Graham Hornigold, who has created an exclusive menu in, well you guessed it, vanilla.

Tastebud tastic treats include Honey and Vanilla Glazed Madeleines, Clementine and Vanilla Fairy Cakes (sprinkled in girly glitter) and Black Fig with Wildflower Honey and Mascarpone Mousse.

There is also something for those who prefer their savory to their sweet including sandwiches, scones and your tea of choice.

Guests also get mini-size Jo Malone goodies: a Vanilla & Anise Cologne and a Grapefruit shower gel, as well as a voucher for an in-store hand and arm massage all from just £32 per person.

And if this doesn't impress your wild friends then you can always leave the aunts, mum and mum in law to continue the day while you head out to London's clubs to enjoy the evening.

Alternative hen weekends: The festival.

A hen night has grown from a quiet night in, to a full on girls night out party, which can last just the eve, if it's dinner and a club, or the whole week if you decide to grab the girls and head abroad.

Then there are other brides who like to take it that little bit more easy choosing a relaxing spa break in the lead up to their wedding.

However, there are always some that may want to go that little bit further, looking for something that little bit more different. In this new series we look at alternative hen nights, starting with festivals.

Read on after the jump.
