Joyce Jackson bridal veil collection 2012

By Elisabeth on January 11th, 2012

To wear a veil or not wear a veil is a…bsolutely a question for brides to be. I personally think veils are making a comeback, especially when the choices are so many as now. One designer that offers stunning veils, both long and short, is Joyce Jackson whose designs are available through Rainbow Club.

Each veil is hand made to order so you can be sure to get exactly what you want. The 2012 collection draws on inspiration from the beautiful styles of Old Hollywood and royal brides alike so whether you’re going modern or vintage, there is something there for you.

Below are some of my favourites.

Beautiful bridal fascinators and veils by HT Headwear

By Elisabeth on November 30th, 2011

Loving the bridal collection of birdcage veils and headbands with vintage adornments by HT Headwear. Behind the collection is designer Helena Talbot, who started the company when she herself was searching for that unique finishing touch that would complement her own style and budget. Sourcing the fabric from British suppliers, Helena travels up and down the country in search for vintage brooches, feathers, diamantes, pears and crystals that will add detail to the pieces – with a possibility of bespoke creations for the bride who knows exactly what she wants!

The pieces are affordable, starting at £50 and up to around £200 for more elaborate designs.

Debbie Carlisle is perhaps best known for her luxury vintage jewellery bouquets but we think she’ll soon be equally acknowledged for her vintage-inspired headpieces and cuffs that mix vintage charm with a modern edge.

The 2012 collection of headpieces and cuffs take inspiration from the 1920s, 1950s, 1960 and 1970s but with a modern twist and is available online now.

Debbie said: “I wanted to make this collection as versatile as possible so brides could wear their chosen design in many different ways. I wanted to give them maximum choice about their on-the-day look – or looks – and also give them the option of wearing their bridal headpiece over and over, long after their wedding day has gone.”

Hat advice from Philip Treacy [photos]

By Elisabeth on June 15th, 2011

Renowned milliner Philip Treacy – who has designed headwear for Victoria Beckham and Duchess Catherine – believes hats do not have to be “eccentric”.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Treacy said: “The hat is a symbol of Englishness. It’s an expression of individuality and, as such, one should choose a hat that one feels good about. It need not be eccentric; the look could be subtle. Not matching is the new matching.”

We hear you Philip, but that doesn’t explain what you were thinking when designing the octopus fascinator for Princess Beatrice for the royal wedding. That was matchy-matchy and unconventional if anything…

We decided to take a look at some of Philip Treacy’s creations over the years:

Bridal trend: Birdcage veils

By Elisabeth on June 7th, 2011

If you don’t want to go with a traditional full-length veil like Kate Middleton, yet still want to decorate your locks a birdcage veil could be the perfect choice.

A birdcage veil has a certain allure, giving the bride a different look while not hiding her radiant smile. Depending on the style of your gown, the wedding location and your features, you can keep the length as short or as long as you’re happy with and embellish it to go with anything you like – perhaps a sparkling jewel or feathers?  It will also won’t be too hot to wear for summer weddings!

Simple yet dramatic, we love birdcage veils.

5 wedding tiaras for wannabe princesses

By Elisabeth on June 3rd, 2011

Despite it happened over one month ago, we’re still not completely over the royal wedding. Didn’t Kate look pretty when she joined The Firm in her bespoke Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding dress, not to mention that heirloom tiara…

As it is Friday – the perfect day for looking at shiny sparkly things – we’ve put together a gallery of five tiaras that would be perfect for all wannabe princesses out there.

The Queen of bridal fashion: Sarah Burton or Vera Wang?

By Elisabeth on May 4th, 2011

While reigning Queen of bridal design Vera Wang recently set up shop here in London, we’re wondering if Sarah Burton’s Alexander McQueen dress for bride of the year Princess Kate Middleton could mean Wang has been dethroned as the world arise to a new McQueen.

Burton, who showed some stunning pieces at the Alexander McQueen Winter 2011 ready-to-wear collection in Paris earlier this year, has with the royal collaboration certainly taken a step up in the world of bridal couture. While Kate’s gown was a bespoke piece, the bridal twist to Burton’s line certainly provided inspiration for future brides – and showed off the creativity on offer.

Meanwhile, Vera Wang’s autumn 2011 let swathed pleating, blossom skirts, Chantilly lace and delicate organza grace the catwalks.

Who is the winner: Burton or Wang?

Hats off to the Royal Wedding: a look at the guest fashion [photos]

By Elisabeth on May 3rd, 2011

As expected with any British wedding, especially when it is a royal one, the ladies (and gentlemen) came dressed for the occasion with hats and fascinators fighting for the attention of the crowds. Not that anyone could compete with the bride herself as she looked stunning in her Alexander McQueen dress by Sarah Burton and tiara.

London milliner and a favourite of the royal family, Philip Treacy is said to have been behind over 30 of the headpieces on display last Friday at Prince William and Princess Catherine’s wedding. While some worked better than others, it is Princess Beatrice’s Treacy-designed headgear that has received the most attention post-wedding. What do you think? Who wore it best?
