While reigning Queen of bridal design Vera Wang recently set up shop here in London, we’re wondering if Sarah Burton’s Alexander McQueen dress for bride of the year Princess Kate Middleton could mean Wang has been dethroned as the world arise to a new McQueen.
Burton, who showed some stunning pieces at the Alexander McQueen Winter 2011 ready-to-wear collection in Paris earlier this year, has with the royal collaboration certainly taken a step up in the world of bridal couture. While Kate’s gown was a bespoke piece, the bridal twist to Burton’s line certainly provided inspiration for future brides – and showed off the creativity on offer.
Meanwhile, Vera Wang’s autumn 2011 let swathed pleating, blossom skirts, Chantilly lace and delicate organza grace the catwalks.
Who is the winner: Burton or Wang?

As expected with any British wedding, especially when it is a royal one, the ladies (and gentlemen) came dressed for the occasion with hats and fascinators fighting for the attention of the crowds. Not that anyone could compete with the bride herself as she looked stunning in her Alexander McQueen dress by Sarah Burton and tiara.
London milliner and a favourite of the royal family, Philip Treacy is said to have been behind over 30 of the headpieces on display last Friday at Prince William and Princess Catherine’s wedding. While some worked better than others, it is Princess Beatrice’s Treacy-designed headgear that has received the most attention post-wedding. What do you think? Who wore it best?

Whether you are the bride, a bridesmaid or attending your best friends’ wedding finding the right outfit can be tricky, not to mention the shoes. After all, the right shoes can make the outfit. If you’re after something a bit different Hetty Rose shoes are the perfect choice!
“The collection is based on a theory of re-using and re-working vintage materials in a creative and sustainable way, hand making gorgeous, feminine shoes to fit.”

As each pair is handmade, brides can match the fabric or colour theme to their dress: creating a unique, personal treasure to keep forever.
We’d quite like to see Kate Middleton in a pair of Hetty Rose’s…

When we came across the designs of Rachel Trevor-Morgan at an event last week, we feel madly in love with her stunning fascinators.
Desperate looking for the opportune moment to try one of the lovely headpieces on which sadly never came, we immediately went to her website to explore further; it was here we came across this showstopping fuchsia fascinator that is sure to be a conversation piece at any summer weddings.
Rachel Trevor-Morgan has worked as a milliner since 1990, and operates from her 17th century atelier in London St. James’s where she offers a bespoke service to those looking for a stunning headpiece. In 2006, Rachel was appointed by Her Majesty The Queen to design hats which she has consequently worn to many high profile occasions like Royal Ascot and Her Diamond Wedding celebration at Westminster. Will she be wearing a Rachel Trevor-Morgan design for the forthcoming royal wedding between William and Kate?
Each piece is handmade by the small team in the St James’s studio: the hats and headdresses can even be dyed to match your outfit!

With the happy news that William has finally asked Miss Catherine to marry him, and Britain going wedding crazy, we thought it fitting that this month’s focus should be on tiaras. We can’t think of anything, apart from a horse drawn carriage perhaps, that says Princess Bride more. With a little help from Amazon.co.uk, we’ve search through a wide range of accessories to find the five head pieces we thought you might like.

Did you look at Kate Middleton’s (or Catherine as we now must learn to call her) engagement ring and think that is The Ring for me?

As you are probably already know, the engagement ring originally belonged to William’s late mother, the Princess of Wales; who wore it even after becoming divorced from Prince Charles; and is one stunning piece of jewellery.
The 12-carat, oval cut Ceylon Sapphire is surrounded by 18 diamonds, set in white gold with a narrow yellow gold band, was selected by Diana from a selection of eight rings by Royal jeweller Garrard. The ring, which cost £28,000 in 1981, is now valued around £250,000.
Now us normal girls can’t afford to pay those sums for our wedding, let alone for one ring! Luckily, online shopping site QVC offers three extremely similar designs at more affordable prices for those looking for ‘the Willerine / Cathiam ring’ (we haven’t decided what to call the happy couple just yet).
Check out the designs below and happy shopping!

If you’re worried your new husband might forget your ‘morning gift’ why not send him a link to EC One (ponounced ec1).
Offering a unique selection of beautiful trinkets that are a perfect way to remember your special day, EC One enjoys a reputation as London’s leading jewellery boutiques: championing forward thinking jewellery design which is on-trend, desirable and quality led.
We fell in love with the EC One workshop vintage inspired initial Carnival charm necklace (£85) with a floral pattern. Available in all letters and numbers, you can add as many as you like on the chain, however we love the simplicity of just the one letter. Or how about the 9ct yellow cold coin hummingbird necklace (£343) with a hummingbird and flower engraving, designed by Lindsay Pearson?
EC One also offers an in-house bespoke service to happy couples, allowing them to design their engagement rings or wedding bands from scratch to make sure everything is perfect.
Husband and wife team Jos and Alison Skeates set up EC One on Clerkenwell’s vibrant Exmouth Market in 1997 and have since opened a second store in Notting Hill, as well as offer an online shop.

You’ve found that perfect vintage dress and found a venue that fits the theme beautifully, but now it’s time to find those perfect accessories.
Vintage jewellery can be hard to find, but we’ve got some great news for you ladies.
Madeline Isaac-James, a bridalwear designer has launched a range of gorgeous accessories, which not only coordinate with her Starlet and Candlelit 2011 bridal collections, (see the full range here) but are also great for teaming up with other vintage dresses.
The Charleston Collection promises brides beautiful vintage inspired hair accessories designed and hand-made in England. Each unique piece is named after a song, dance or star from the Roaring Twenties, reflecting the excitement, freedom and ‘all that jazz’ reminiscent of that era.
The designer has joined forces with Paula Marsh from The Vintage Sparkle Company to create the vintage inspired collection exclusively for Madeline Isaac-James and the collection includes gorgeous combs, tiaras and headbands – all of which are hand-made in Paula’s studio in Hampshire.
Each piece is individually made to order and include Swarovski crystals and pearls in the design.
Each piece is also beautifully presented in a bespoke box with tissue and ribbon (also perfect as a keepsake box for brides). However if you want to get your hands on a piece of this gorgeous range we advise you get in there quickly. Each piece is individually made to order, with lead-time varying between 2-4 weeks dependant on the time of year.
Check out the gallery below for some of our favourite pieces. For more information and for the full range check out Madeline Isaac-James now.

We know many brides are unsure about whether or not to carry a bag with them on the big day, after all they won’t need their mobile phones as many of their friends and family will be there.
Then there’s the worry about what to do with it when your taking your vows.
Although its not by any means a tradition to carry a bag, they do come in handy for keeping make up in, and they can be easily passed to your bridesmaid or maid of honour when you’re at the ceremony.
If you like the idea of one then make sure you pick one that matches the shade of your dress. If you can get an exact match you can also customise it by adding sparkles, feathers or beading to detract from the slight colour mismatch.
We’ve put together a gallery of bags to help you.

If you’re getting married this winter but worried about the dark and dreary nights then add some colour to the day with these hot pink shoes from Aruna Seth.
We know they may not be the first choice to an otherwise traditional wedding, but you’ll only do it once, so why not do it in colourful style. We think these shoes are perfect for brides that really want to stand out and we’ve fallen in love with the butterfly detailing, which is a perfect partner to these summery shoes. There’s also a hidden platform sole meaning these shoes won’t hurt your feet.
The shoes also come in black and ivory, but remember, hot pink shoes are really a pair you can wear again and again.

It seems that companies are waking up to the fact that we’re in a midst of credit crunch and that we have to tighten our corsets when it comes to our bridal budget.
Following on from our news about a designer shoe hiring service, we’ve just been told about the UK’s first diamond jewellery rental website.
Diamondthrills is aimed at women who want to wear that expensive piece of jewellery for a special occasion but can’t afford it, especially brides who want to be adorned with genuine diamonds on their wedding day (unfortunately we’re not talking about the engagement ring here.)
It offers a range of diamond earrings, pendants, necklaces, bangles, bracelets and tiaras, all available for hire at prices that start at £50 per week.
In addition, you’ll also have the peace of mind of knowing that loaned jewellery is insured whilst in their possession, and delivery to and from the customer is secure and free.
Visit the website now for that extra bridal bling.
