Announcements, Wedding Cake
By Andrea Petrou on October 16th, 2009
We weren’t really shocked when we heard about this, but it confirmed what we always knew, brides to be always have the last say over their grooms when it comes to their special day, even with the cake.
Research by Cakes to your door has found that only 10% of grooms choose their wedding cake on their own (we told you it wasn’t a revelation).
This compares with 30 per cent of women who organise the wedding cake themselves. The statistics also show that although 60 per cent of couples choose their wedding cake together, almost half organise it without their partners’ input.
Kevin Slatter, co-owner at Cakes to Your Door said: “It’s interesting that so few men get the task of organising the wedding cake themselves, yet our statistics also revealed that of those men that are involved in choosing the cake, a huge 80 per cent of them get to choose the cake filling with only 20 per cent of women getting the final say on this aspect; does this mean women are more concerned with the appearance of the cake and for men, it’s taste that is more important?”
We know that when it comes to our day, we’ll definitely be choosing the cake AND the filling on our own.

Alternative hen weekends, Announcements

Yesterday we bought you saucy and today we’re bringing you a sweet hen alternative.
The Landmark London hotel has decided to help brides to pile on the calories (for the record we think this is worth it) and introduced a chocolate themed afternoon tea.
The chocolate treats are served between 3pm and 6pm in the eight-storey, glass-roofed central atrium of the Winter Garden restaurant where you’ll also be treated to sweet live music from a pianist or harpist and surrounded in exotic palm trees.
And if this isn’t enough wait until you hear about the menu, which includes marble cupcakes, white chocolate and mint macaroons, chocolate choux buns, baked white chocolate cheesecake, and some chocolate nibbles too.
We think this day out is a bargain for £35 per person. Or £40 for brides that want a glass of Taittinger Champagne.
Visit the Landmark London Hotel website for more information and to book.

Brides to be and their other halves can now say ‘I do’ on board the Concorde.
Based at the Brooklands Museum in Weybridge, Surrey, the county council has licensed the passenger jet for marriages and civil partnership ceremonies.
There will be room for a wedding party of 32 on board the plane, but those who like their airline grub will be disappointed to hear that this won’t be included.
Surrey county councillor, Denise Saliagopoulos, said: “We were more than happy to provide a civil wedding license that will mean this much-loved icon of the air can continue to be a place for happy memories long into its retirement.”

We can hear hearts breaking across the globe as we write this and bring you the news that Sex and the City actor Chris Noth is reportedly engaged to his long term girlfriend Tara Lynn Wilson.
According to OK magazine, the couple, which have been together since 2004 made the engagement public at a fashion show where Tara was seen wearing a large diamond ring (some girls have all the luck).
Chris and Tara are said to be planning their big day although no details have yet been announced.
A source told the magazine: “It all happened very recently. This is the first time they’ve appeared in public with her wearing that huge diamond.”
Watch this space for more information, and in the meantime we’re going to console ourselves by watching the Sex and the City box set and imagining what could have been.

It’s not unusual now for us women to propose to our other halves, after all we are in the 21st Century and sometimes men need a little bit of encouragement.
If you are one such lady and looking for unique ways to propose then this may be right up your street.
Cadbury has decided to dedicate £2m of media space to fans of its Wispa Gold chocolate bars as a ‘thank you’ for their ongoing commitment to Wispa.
This means anyone can submit a special message which may be featured on one of over 1,000 poster sites across the UK and Ireland.
One man took advantage of this last week after Cadbury recruited Rolf Harris to create a new original painting on a billboard near Old Street roundabout.
The message he bought to life was a marriage proposal from Wispa fan Phil Lee to his girlfriend Jackie Haworth (who luckily said yes!)
If you fancy doing the same for your other half then log onto Wispa Gold Messages for more information.

Sophie Winkleman and her beau Lord Freddie Windsor finally tied the knot this week and we’re sure you’ll agree the actress walked down the aisle in silk style.
Her dress was designed by designer of Roza Couture, Anna-Roza Bistroff and was made of 35 metres of silk with embroidery that took a reported 381 hours to stitch.
It also had a tight corset bodice, full skirt and three-metre detachable train completed by a lace bolero and a veil.
Yes it may seem a bit extreme but when you’re marrying the son of Princess Michael of Kent, you need to do your bit to look like a princess too.
We’ll bring you a gallery of similar dresses tomorrow.

I love a bridal bargain and after a day of princess fairytale dresses and veils on a budget, what better way to end the day with news of the Hollywood Dreams sale.
If you know about the company’s dresses you’ll know they are the epitome of fairytale dreams.
The sale of sample stock and is mainly size 12 dresses, but remember you can have them independently altered if you need to. It will take place on the 17th – 18th October.
Viewings are by appointment only and you can book from 21st September. However you better get your purses ready and pennies counted as gowns must be collected with full payment on day of purchase.

It’s often hard to know what gifts you need from your guests on your wedding day, especially if you and your partner have been living together for years and have the toaster, kettle, candles all sorted out.
Therefore why not think about making a gift to charity.
Breakthrough Breast Cancer has launched Wedding List Givingwith the support of wedding planner to the stars, Peregrine Armstrong-Jones.
The charity is asking brides and grooms-to-be to consider having a wedding list with a difference by asking guests to make a donation to the charity instead of giving presents.
The idea is one of the seasons’ top wedding trends from Peregrine, the mastermind behind the wedding of David and Victoria Beckham, the civil ceremony of Sir Elton John and David Furnish as well as Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly’s royal nuptials.
She has also kindly compiled five wedding tips for us to pass onto you.
Read on after the jump.

It seems as though marriages and engagements are rife on the celeb circuit at the moment, which we’ll blame on the hot weather, and well the fact that it’s the summer.
Now this is a bit of a friend who told another friend style story but bear with us.
According to our friends over at Confetti, who heard it from another publication, the latest to bite the bridal bullet is Model and author Sophie Dahl and her fiancé jazz pianist Jamie Cullum.
This cute celebrity couple are supposedly planning a summer wedding at Hunton Park country estate in Hertfordshire in the Summer of next year.
As always we’ll keep you posted on any developments.

If you want to be a green goddess on your wedding day (and no we’re talking face painted like the wicked witch) then this fayre may just be the ethic key.
The Great Big Green Wedding Fayre is said to be the first of its kind in the North West. Taking place in Liverpool on the 5 and 6 September this fayre will feature a catwalk show by Oxfam.
It will also be packed with green and ethical wedding suppliers such as Little Cake Heaven, which claims to offer cupcakes made from free range eggs, Fairtrade chocolate, cocoa and coffee. It also only uses only recyclable packaging and locally sourced ingredients.
Glamour Junkie, a company that makes handmade wraps, shrugs and hair accessories, made from felting, fusing ultralight silk with merino wool and other natural fibers, will also be showing off its stuff at the show.
And it doesn’t end there. Brides, and their grooms (if you can drag them along) can also sign up to be Great Green VIP Brides & Grooms. For £6 each you will be given a goody bag plus be put into a prize draw to win a day at the UK’s First Eco-Spa or some beauty hampers from LoveLula and Green Rooms.
VIP brides can also sample beauty therapies, enjoy taster foods and drinks for their wedding, listen to musicians and have the opportunity to sit in a dining room fully dressed for a vintage wedding where you and your guests will be seated for complimentary tea and cake. Well that’s made up our minds, we’re signing up now.
