Mehndhi for brides

By admin on May 17th, 2006

MehndhiMehndhi (or mehndi) is a style of skin art traditionally worn by Indian and Pakistani brides as well as their bridal party. In some communities even the groom will join in too. The beautifully complicated designs are painted onto hands, fingers and feet using henna (a plant based paste) which is left to dry.

Western brides haven’t really picked up on the style, instead it’s occasionally used to create temporary tattoos. You can found a variety of traditional and modern styles here. Also read about the history of mehndhi here and here. If you know more about the origins of mehndhi, do tell us in the comments too.

Asian bridal beauty by Naveeda and Nina Haider

By admin on March 31st, 2006

AsianbridalTop make-up artists  Naveeda and Nina Haider – make-up artist for Coronation Street’s Sunita and Footballers Wives Laila Rouass – have collaborated to produce the Asian Bridal Look Book. Featuring 150 pages of make-up tips, hair styles and colour co-ordinating style, it isl designed with the Asian bride in mind.

Probably the best thing about the book is that the looks can easily be adapted to suit other occasions but it could have benefitted from step-by-step instructions to recreating the looks. Still if you want to find a look for different types of skin tone with some gorgeous photography then this is a good place to start.

Redd Bridal Asian wedding lengha

Redlengha

There’s something so incredibly glamorous about Asian weddings. I don’t know if it’s the vibrant colours, the exquisite embroidery or the fact that the UK’s Asian wedding industry is worth around £300million per year.

It was fairly difficult to find Asian bridal gowns online without coming up with a round a billion dating sites but we knew we had come up smelling of roses when we stumbled across Redd Bridal.com

This gorgeous maroon silk lengha immediately caught my eye. It’s the type of outfit that would pull in the fuller figure whilst cinching a slimmer bride into a perfect hourglass shape.
