Wedding Book of the Week: Don’t You Dare Get Married Until You Read This!

By admin on January 15th, 2008

coreydonaldson1.jpgSubtitled “More than 500 points to ponder before you live happily ever after, from love and sex to in-laws, exes and, dirty laundry”, Don’t You Dare Get Married Until You Read This isn’t a book of advice, it’s a book of questions that you should ask before you get married. In other words, it does exactly what it says on the tin!

World’s tallest wedding dress unveiled in Torremolinos

By admin on January 10th, 2008

tallest%20dress.JPGSure, there are tall brides aren’t there but none enough so to warrant the creation of a wedding dress that stands 4.24 metres (14 feet) and is wide enough to eclipse the sun if you’re of average build.

Apparently the dress was created as part of a dance competition in Spanish resort Torremolinos so fortuantely it won’t be a trend that grows during 2008.

Wedding Book of the Week: The Chocolate Bridal Bash

By admin on January 8th, 2008

chocolatebridal.jpgThe Chocolate Bridal Bash is one of a series of cosy mysteries by JoAnna Carl.

Like many of us, bride-to-be Lee McKinney has butted heads with her future mother-in-law over her upcoming wedding so the last thing she needs is trouble with her own mom. Lee asks her chocolate shop-owning Aunt Nettie for advice. There, the bride learns that years earlier, her mother fled on what would have been her own wedding day-hours before her fiancé was found dead. Now, to smooth things over, Lee must untangle a mystery older than she is.

A mystery, a wedding and chocolate? Surely this is a book no-one could resist!

Non-profit organization The Princess Project will be hosting screenings of Katherine Heigl’s new comedy “27 Dresses” in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, Washington D.C. and San Francisco. Geek weddings: More couples choosing Star Trek over Vera Wang

By admin on January 7th, 2008

We’re not adverse to the odd ‘geek’ wedding over here, in fact, we positively relish something a bit unusual, but Cate over at our sister site Dollymix has found this fab montage of the couples who have embraced ‘geek weddings’ which seems to comprise Super Mario cakes, robots, zombie makeup and so much more. Take a look… [via Dollymix]

Online planning tool for brides with Muse Weddings

By admin on January 4th, 2008

Muse%20wedding.JPGWedding planning tools are abundant (just look at any wedding magazine) but this one from Muse Weddings is really versatile. Currently in beta testing, it offers brides a clutter free site to jot down all your inspirations, to-do lists, budgets and tasks to help you in the preparations. It is free too!

The site is pretty easy to use for entering and altering information and you don’t have to be techy in any way to understand it. New features are still being added and you can even duplicate your schedules and share them as Excel spreadsheets with other members of the party. The only noticeable drawback is it isn’t pretty to look at though the simplicity is sure to appeal to those who are fed up of looking at clipart wedding bells and the like. You can find Muse Weddings here.

YouTube video: I like weddings, I can not lie

By admin on December 24th, 2007

Shiny gal Kat spotted this YouTube video with a fun loving bride and groom putting on a Sir Mix A Lot dance for the pleasure of their assembled guests. For an alternative to the traditional first dance, this is about as daft as it gets and certainly great fun!

See Yourself Slimmer

By admin on December 12th, 2007

slimmer2.jpgI know it’s a cliche, but it’s also a fact that the majority of women will want to lose at least a bit of weight before their big day. Some take the drastic step of buying a dress in a much small size. Others, like me, resort to prayer and control knickers. If you’re determined to shift a bit of lard, then I’ve found a service that just might provide the incentive (you know, if the whole wedding thing isn’t incentive enough) (and it often isn’t – I know someone who had to buy a second dress when she couldn’t fit into the first one with just a couple of weeks to go).

See Yourself Slimmer basically takes a photo of you and gives it the old celebrity airbrush treatment to show you what you could look like if you lay off the Pringles and Bailey’s (oh no, sorry, that’s me). Prices start at £14.99 and even if it doesn’t help you lose the weight, at least you’ll have a picture of yourself looking thin… it just won’t be your wedding picture.

Wedding Book of the Week: Lilly’s Big Day by Kevin Henkes

By admin on December 11th, 2007

lillysbigday.jpgI haven’t featured a children’s book for a while, but I absolutely love Kevin Henkes’ Lilly books and Lilly’s Big Day would be a great way to introduce a child to the concept of being a flower girl. Actually, Lilly pronounces herself “The World’s Best and Most Famous Flower Girl”, but unfortunately before her teacher, Mr Slinger, has actually asked her to assist at his wedding at all…

Paul Rudd (you may remember him from such films as Knocked Up … and he was Phoebe’s Mike in Friends) is set to star in a comedy called “I Love You, Man,” playing a bridegroom looking for a best man. [via Reuters]

Brides on Film #8: Calista Flockhart as Kitty Walker in Brothers & Sisters

By admin on December 10th, 2007

BoF8%20Kitty%20Walker.JPG

As you would expect from Brothers & Sisters, Kitty Walker (Calista Flockhart) and Senator McCallister’s (Rob Lowe) wedding looks like an elegant affair even if it was fraught with the usual TV pre-wedding scandal (blackmail in this case), a rather unexpected mom-daughter speech from Sally Field’s Nora and a will-they-won’t they question mark. And in case you didn’t see it already, there’s a video clip after the turn so you can see exactly what happened right up to the cliffhanger. Enjoy!
