Martha Stewart’s Sweet Shop Cakes

By admin on December 18th, 2008

SweetShopCakes.jpgIt’s lunch time, I’m hungry and I’m mkaing it worse by looking at mouthwatering cakes at Martha Stewart Weddings. The Sweet Shop cakes gallery is stuff that greedy little dreams are made of – and that’s no bad thing! – with cakes piled with candy, pepparmints and jelly beans. Not only are they gorgeous to look at but you can get some of the recipes too. View the gallery here.

Diana Heideman’s Goodwill wedding dress poem

By admin on November 27th, 2008

I won’t reprint the whole poem here (you should read it all at Manolo for the Brides) but I think it makes beautiful, if not bittersweet, reading for those of you who are wondering if it is worth keeping your once worn dress forever and for those of you who may never have given a second hand dress another chance.

Strapless, vanity size 0, from David’s Bridal, never worn with original tags.
She never lost the 50 pounds she swore she would, and bought the proper size the week before the wedding, and looked beautiful.

Eggshell sheath with sash, tags removed, altered, never worn.
Two months before the wedding, after the final fitting, her pregnancy test came back positive, and while she still fit in the dress, he did not want to be a father, and one morning he was gone.

DS Imagine Dream Wedding for young gamers

By admin on November 19th, 2008

DS dream wedding.jpgI’m a big fan of the DS Lite as are my children so I think this game would be a winner for younger bridesmaids who enjoy the console. The game allows the player to plan a virtual wedding from the style to the bride’s dress and accessories, inviting the guests and more. Each ‘perfect wedding’ unlocks a new game but be prepared to act quickly to save the day if the ‘bride’ doesn’t like it! I don’t think it’s going to overly exert any brain cells but it might be fun. Get it for £24.99 at Amazon.

Wedding Book of the Week: Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work

By admin on November 18th, 2008

Gottman.jpgI first heard of John Gottman via, I think, Malcolm Gladwell’s wonderful book, Blink. I don’t usually have much time for marriage analysis, but Gottman’s work seemed to be inherently sensible and, even better, interesting.

Share your wedding scrapbook via Scrapblog

By admin on November 17th, 2008

Wedding Book of the Week: Saving Your Marriage Before it Starts

By admin on November 4th, 2008

51R9HA2JCRL._SL500_AA240_.jpgGoodness, that’s kind of a depressing title for a book, isn’t it? How can your marriage need “saving” before you even have a marriage?

But it’s written by marriage therapists Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott, who presumably know what they’re talking about (and they’ve appeared on Oprah, so they *must*!). It shows couples the three ingredients of romantic love, how to fight a good fight, two skills for instant communication, and more.

Ever wanted to marry a book character?

By admin on October 30th, 2008

anime_00031.jpgMore than 1,000 people in Japan have signed an online petition to present to the government to establish a law permitting marriage to comic characters. No, I’m not kidding. I’ve no idea how that would work, but it’s an interesting idea.

Wedding Book of the Week: Husbandry

By admin on October 28th, 2008

husbandry1.jpgSubtitled “Sex, Love & Dirty Laundry – Inside the Minds of Married Men”, Husbandry is a collection of essays by Stephen Fried that purport to reveal “the answers to some of mankind’s greatest mysteries”. Like “why do men hog the remote? Refuse to stop and ask for directions? Have such a hard time sharing their emotions? Why can’t they drop their socks in the laundry basket instead of near it? What does a man mean when he says “uh-huh”? (No, it doesn’t always mean he’s not listening.)”

Wedding Book of the Week: Hudson’s Dream Wedding Venues

By admin on October 21st, 2008

51H25o7++-L._SL500_AA240_.jpgWhen I first spotted this book, I imagined that it would feature international wedding venues – but no! – it’s subtitled “Britain’s Finest Locations for Weddings and Receptions”.

Having had a fruitless search for the perfect British wedding venue myself (a few years ago now), I imagine this book would be extremely useful. It’s published 1 November.
