By admin on August 11th, 2008

crafts.jpg
At your reception it’s always hard to keep adults and kids entertained at the same time. While your peers will be fully involved in the speeches and the flowing conversation over dinner, the littler members of the family circle won’t sit still for too long.

I love the idea of a little crafts table early on at your bash for just such a purpose. Crafts4Kids is a website with tons of cheap and easy purchases that you can leave all the juniors to enjoy without mess, fuss or teary tantrums. Order your kits online now from their website.

More favours for everyone

Wedding Book of the Week: Occasional Therapy for The Wedding

By admin on August 5th, 2008

51Xy11EHkfL._SL500_AA240_.jpgBy Dr Ellyn Gamberg, this book is subtitled “9 Sessions for Your Sanity and Survival” and apparently offers techniques, exercises and skills to help a bride, groom, parents or siblings and friends work together “while a wedding is planned and a lifetime together is launched”.

So that’s probably quite useful then.

Carrie & Danielle on great wedding gifts

By admin on August 4th, 2008

about_1.jpgYou know I love Carrie & Danielle – I’m always raving about them and their Style Statement business – well last week on their daily Q&A, they asked “What’s the best wedding gift?”.

Carrie answered: “I love to give objects of art. Pottery, a handmade serving spoon, a pen & ink drawing that represents the bride & groom’s style. I am not into giving practical things like knives, pots and pans. Knowing that a cherished object lives in their home creates meaning and connection for all of us.”

By admin on July 31st, 2008

Rattlebox.JPGE-card website Rattlebox have launched a new wedding/marriage category. All the ‘cards’ are video clips produced from 40,000 hours of raw footage including kitschy vintage PSAs, old-school animation and cute, irreverent and provocative original content set to music with space for customised text so you can give it a personal twist. And it’s all free!

Use it to email ‘save the dates’, ask your fave gal pal to be your bridesmaid and even to announce to the virtual world that you’re getting married. As their motto suggests, it’s the place to go for ‘e-cards that don’t suck’.

Wedding Book of the Week: So Why Have You Never Been Married

By admin on July 29th, 2008

NeverBeenMarried.jpgThis week’s book is a bit different. So Why Have You Never Been Married: Ten Insights Into Why He Hasn’t Wed, is by 49-year-old, never-married, Carl Weisman.

According to Weisman’s online survey of 1533 respondents of more than 40 never-married heterosexual men, the number one reason given (48%) why they have yet to marry is they believe they haven’t found the right person. For the remainder, 13% just never made it a priority or attached any importance to marriage, 7% enjoy being single and 8% expressed no desire to ever get married. Weisman’s book delves into these details and shares intimate stories from nearly three dozen men.

Wedding Book of the Week: Why Women Shouldn’t Marry

By admin on July 22nd, 2008

41FvgxZJ5IL._SL500_AA240_.jpgYes, I know this seems like an odd pic for a wedding site, but it’s good to know about these things, don’t you think?

In Why Women Shouldn’t Marry: Being Single By Choice, mother-daughter co-authors Cynthia S. and Hillary B. Smith point out the pitfalls of marriage and remarriage, reveal statistics that back up the current trend [to stay single], and recount the experiences of women of all ages who no longer feel marriage is the only way to go. Interesting.

Don’t Tell The Bride returns for a new series

By admin on July 18th, 2008

Donttell.JPGRemember the last series of Don’t Tell The Bride? The premise was would you let your husband-to-be and his mates plan your wedding? Six brave brides did just that in return for what they hoped to be a dream wedding. The grooms were given a budget and three weeks to plan everything from the guest list to the colour and theme, the bridesmaid dresses and even the bride’s own gown. As the couple are barred from seeing each other until the ceremony, did the grooms pull it off without a hitch?

Wedding Book of the Week: Weddings Can Be Murder

By admin on July 15th, 2008

51v9dTiJKLL._SL500_AA240_.jpgIt’s a while since I’ve featured a wedding crime book so what do you think of this one – Weddings Can Be Murder by Christie Craig. Carry on over the cut where a book trailer can explain the plot better than I ever could.

Craig has another book called Divorced, Desperate and Delicious, so if this one doesn’t appeal, that one might!

WEtv “puts the ‘we’ into ‘weddings’”

By admin on July 4th, 2008

This video by Sarah Haskins mocks the ridiculous wedding shows on the US’s We Channel. For most of this video, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Until the “Future Vision” bit when I laughed until I almost cried. Completely brilliant. [via Jezebel]

Engagement parties French-style with The Cherry Blossom Girl

By admin on June 24th, 2008

CherryBlossom.JPGIs there anything our French neighbours can’t do elegantly? Just take a look at blogger and stylist Alix’s intimate engagement party which is a lesson in fabulousness not to mention the pictures of yummy cake. Alix had this to say, “In honour of the occasion, the dining room was filled with flowers, my mother brought out the good china, and my family got to know my boyfriend over cake.

Outside, it was blue skies and sunshine as far as the eye can see; a light that I hope will continue to shine bright for many years to come.” Isn’t that charming? See the pics at The Cherry Blossom Girl here. Félicitations, Alix!

Wedding Book of the Week: iDo – Planning Your Wedding With Nothing But ‘Net

By admin on June 24th, 2008

51YRg+ksR0L._SL500_AA240_.jpgHonestly, I can’t tell you how much the title of this book irritates me. I know I’m funny about these things, but “Nothing But ‘Net”? It should be “Nothing But the Net” surely! (And I come from the north, where people are likely to say “t’net” and it still bugs me!)

That aside, this book, by Christa Terry (editor of one of our fave blogs Manolo for the Brides), is, as you would imagine, a guide to planning your wedding using nothing but the internet. Start here at Bridalwave and you’ll be fine.
