Fairytale eco chic at Amor Sans Anguish

By AbiSilvester on April 24th, 2009

tattered-tea-time.jpgAre you an eco-conscious bride going for a fairy, folksy or hippy theme for your summer wedding? If so, allow me to point you towards Amor Sans Anguish, an eclectic label specialising in clothes made entirely from salvaged and recycled materials.

I spotted a few dresses in its online store that would be perfect for bridesmaids, even at a more conventional wedding. My personal favourite is that Tattered at Tea Time frock, which has a very Alice in Wonderland feel about it. There are also some simply gorgeous floral headbands that would make ideal summer wedding wear.

Affordable bridesmaid chic in ASOS’ sale

By AbiSilvester on April 9th, 2009

asos-sale-taffeta.jpgI don’t want to distract you too much from your wedding planning but this is just a quick heads-up for those who haven’t already been over to ASOS today: they’ve got a great sale on the site, with all sorts of must-have fashion items and knocked down prices that will definitely appeal if you’re knee deep in wedding costs but want a bit of a relief!

If you’re determined not to be diverted from the path, however, I’ve spotted one or two cute dresses that would make perfect bridesmaid wear that could cut down your costs considerably. This taffeta crossover prom dress, for example, is now just £25 available in fuchsia or black.

Bridesmaids (or brides) on a budget – the convertible infinite dress

By Gemma on April 6th, 2009

infinite_dress.jpg

I’ve recently been helping a bride-to-be friend pick out her bridesmaids dresses. I have a bit of a vested interest as I’m maid of honour, but luckily she’s a stylish bride who I know won’t put me in a pistachio meringue. On my hunt, I discovered Dessy’s ‘Twist Wrap Dress’ (left, in purple) which set alarm bells ringing. It’s a convertible dress – essentially a tube with very long, wide straps that you can wrap however you like. Sure, it looks beautiful, but it’s $268, and bears a striking resemblance to a craftster project I’ve been following for months, which can be made for a few quid.

The dress is literally sewn from four pieces and can be made by even the most amateur of crafters. There are some great examples of how the dress has been used for bridesmaids and formalwear, but my favourite is a white version used as a graduation dress. I can even imagine this one as an informal wedding gown.

Bridesmaids Gallery: teal, green and turquoise dresses (from £50 each)

By Gemma on April 3rd, 2009

At the National Wedding Show earlier this year, I was surprised at just how many bridesmaids dresses on offer were teal or deep turquoise. It seems to be the colour du jour this year, not just at wedding shops but also on the high street. It’s a great suits-all shade, and is perfect for any season. Here are some of my favourite bridesmaids dresses for all budgets, from £50 up to almost £500!

Contemporary bridesmaid style at Boutique Ethique

By AbiSilvester on April 2nd, 2009

bridesmaid-fashion.jpgIf you’re planning on a green wedding and don’t want your attendants looking like they’ve just stepped out of Glastonbury, you’ll need to track down a supplier specialising in eco-friendly occasionwear.

Most eco chic outlets will have something suitable, and I’d recommend Adili for the widest choice. But at the moment, Boutique Ethique is bursting at the seams with wedding-friendly attire, all made under highly ethical standards. These three outfits would be perfect for bridal attendants, and all fabrics are certified organic; the garments hand-made in France. The neutral tones are all created using traditional, natural dyes and prices aren’t bad either. Visit Boutique Ethique for more details.

Let it snow, let it snow: 9ct white gold and diamond snowflake ring from Pure Jewels

By Hannah Kane on February 2nd, 2009

Snowflake ring.jpgIt looks more like the Arctic than London outside my window – snow in deep fluffy drifts as far as the eye can see! In honour of the white stuff I thought I’d show you this lovely snowflake ring, £145 from Pure Jewels. If you’re having a winter wedding and can afford to splash out it would make a great gift for the bridesmaids. Or for you to wear on your right hand as a little extra bling!

Would you make your bridesmaids’ dresses?

By AbiSilvester on January 30th, 2009

bridesmaid dress pattern.jpgWhile making your own wedding dress might seem like one heart-stopping challenge too far, bridesmaid’s dresses are traditionally simple affairs which – for those handy with a needle – shouldn’t pose too much of a problem.

I was inspired by a post from Melissa Fehr who is certainly not shy of a bit of sewing, and has picked out a great pattern on Burda for a flattering empire-line dress that would work a treat for your entourage. You can see how another aspiring seamstress has made the dress (in a satin fabric) here. If you’d like to give this a go and save yourself a few hundred quid, there are loads more idea to browse over on Burda.

By admin on January 21st, 2009

Crewcuts.jpgDid you watch the presidential inaugauration? What an amazing day. One thing I saw commented on plenty of times were President Obama’s daughters, Sasha and Malia’s outfits. The designs were exclusively made for them from the Crewcuts collection by JCrew but there are plenty of other lovely styles befitting occasionwear for younger guests or bridesmaids.

Phase Eight introduces bridesmaid line

Phase Eight.jpg
High Street store Phase Eight have followed up their winter wedding occasion dress range with a bridesmaid line. The vintage-inspired chiffon and silk dresses come in a variety of neutral and floral prints and are trimmed with delicate lace and beading details. I also spotted one cream lace floor-length style that would make a very tempting wedding dress. Prices are at the higher end of High Street pricing and start from £120. [via Brides]

Princess Poppy’s The Wedding by Janey Louise Jones

By admin on December 30th, 2008

PP Wedding.jpgGifts for your flowergirls don’t have to cost oodles – they are a token of thanks not a measure of cost. I’ve been reading Janey Louise Jones’ Princess Poppy books with my daughter and they are charmingly illustrated, nicely written and easy for littlies to follow. The Wedding, which comes with a story CD, would make a well themed present for a flowergirl in the 3-7 age range. It’s £4.49 at Amazon.

Guest fashion: Snap up occasionwear in the January sales

By admin on December 23rd, 2008

Oasis sale.jpg
I love the sales! Who doesn’t? However, it is essential that you go with a plan. If you’re a truly savvy shopper, you’ll have checked out the designs you like and tried them in store ready to order online. Now is a great time to snap up occasionwear ready for all those 2009 events and I think you’ll find plenty of cut-price dresses to see you through… and I wouldn’t be surpised if you were clever enough to buy your bridesmaid dress too.
