What will Jenna Bush wear down the aisle?

By admin on January 31st, 2008

JennaBush.jpgAndrea Thatcher, our US editor at Shiny Style, has been ruminating on the designer predictions on what President’s daughter Jenna Bush will be wearing to her forthcoming wedding…

While twin sister Barbara is considered the more fashionable Presidential daughter, all eyes will be on Jenna Bush when she weds Henry Hager this spring. We’re still hoping for a white house wedding, but since that seems unlikely we’ll settle for a chic designer gown.

Barbara has connections to Proenza Schouler and Lela Rose, while First Lady Laura Bush can call in heavy hitters like Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera.

What do the experts suggest for Jenna? “I would want Jenna to make the statement, and not just be about the gown itself,” Lela Rose told WWD. Rose suggested strapless sheath with a little volume on the bottom.

Arnold Scaasi thought what would best complement Jenna would be a simple and classic silk satin organza dress. If she plans to wear a train, he told WWD it should be a detachable one that “could be taken off after the ceremony and she could dance the night away. They’re young and peppy. Why shouldn’t they be able to dance around?”

Celeb weddings for less with MoneyMagpie.com

By admin on January 28th, 2008

moneymagpie.JPGThough the average wedding may cost around £17,000, that figure is eclipsed by the staggering amounts spent on a WAG* wedding where costs regularly spiral into six figure sums – Steven Gerrard and Alex Curren were reported to have spent £200,000 on theirs. Does that mean you have to spend the same? Of course not! After all, a wedding is essentially a party where you sign a certificate and celebrate your love and you shouldn’t have to pay a premium for that.

Speculation abounds: Will Prince William marry Kate?

By admin on October 29th, 2007

Will%20and%20Kate.JPGI can’t help feel a little sorry for Prince William. Poor bloke is going to end up on the throne one day – if we don’t have a republic by then – and the world is going a bit mental to see if he’ll marry Kate. It’s a lot to handle for a young man who is in the limelight purely by luck of birth.

According to a House of Commons select committee, William has apparently spoken about his plans to marry girlfriend Kate one day but that there will be no imminent engagement despite speculation. According to sources, 24 year old William will marry but not until at least 2009 when he has completed military duties. Good to see that he won’t be pushed into it. [Daily Mail]

Brides on Film #2: Julia Roberts in Runaway Bride

By admin on October 22nd, 2007

One of our readers suggested romcom Runaway Bride for our second installment of Brides on Film. In the movie, Julia Roberts plays Maggie who despite seemingly wanting to get married has a tendency to do a last minute flit leaving her numerous husbands-to-be standing at the altar. Finally, after agreeing to marry Ike, an investigative reporter covering Maggie’s story, she even does a moonlight flit on him thus confirming her not so nice reputation as the runaway bride. I’ve rounded up images of a couple of the dresses she wore so click on over to see the other one and compare the very different styles. All dresses from the film were rumoured to have been designed by costume designer Albert Wolsky or Amsale with shoes by Peter Fox. At least one of the dresses was later auctioned for charity.
