Cheap Vs Chic – Jimmy Choo Vs Touch Ups

By admin on February 7th, 2007

There are some  subtle differences between these two shoes – the most obvious one being the colour. The Jimmy Choos (on the left) are a pretty silk blush, while the Touch Ups version on the right are a bright white. The biggest difference, of course, is the price – £300 for the Choos versus $55.95 for the similarly styled Touch Ups. If the colours were equal, which would you choose?

Brides and Prejudice – the cost of your gown

By admin on February 7th, 2007

Cif

I’ve just been reading this article in CiF at the Guardian remarking on the upsurge in high street wedding gowns. Here at Bridalwave, I’ve applauded the ranges of not-so-expensive gowns. Of course many women have their heart set on a gown with a few zeros on the price tag (I don’t mean after the decimal point!) and I’m not against that either. Getting married is a special day, who wouldn’t want to wear something great? But how important is it to you that you wear a once in a lifetime couture creation or keep the costs down on a dress you’re highly unlikely to ever wear again? Is it more important to spend that money on an amazing honeymoon, your education, a down payment on a house or car perhaps? What do you think?

Can you tell these dresses apart? One is £100 whilst the others are here and here.

Cheap vs Chic: gold or white?

Two dresses, two very similar looks, two very different prices… don’t you just love it when you can grab a bargain for a song?! On the left, there’s the Tara Keely pick-up gold sash dress that made it as a daily frock last week. On the right, we’ve got a similar style. The colour is white, the skirt’s pick-ups are a little more regimented and the sash is now a sugary pink but the price is a mere £180 from BHS. I think that’s suitable compensation, don’t you?

Cheap Vs Chic: round toe wedding shoes

While neither of these shoes are what you could describe as a "budget" option, at $210, Cynthia Rowley’s ‘Tinsel’ is still less than half the price of these similarly styled Christian Lacroix shoes, which are currently $473.95 at Zappos. Both pairs have round toes and high heels, and both have little fabric bow details on the toe. The question is, is the diamante bow embellishment on the Christian Lacroix versions, and those bright pink soles, worth the additional $263.95?

Cheap Vs Chic: Eden Bridals or Monique Lhuillier?

By admin on January 22nd, 2007

Now, these two gowns aren’t exactly the same: Eden Bridals have added a fold-over detail to the bodice of the dress on the left, while Monique Lhuillier’s version, on the right, keeps things simple. If I’m being completely honest, though, I actually think I prefer the Eden version, which is slightly more interesting than the (admittedly) classic Lhuillier creation. There are no prices on the Eden website, I’m afraid, but I’m willing to bet that their dress is a good bit cheaper than Monique’s. Which do you prefer?

Cheap vs Chic – faux fur shrugs

Those of us getting married during the winter months (or just, like me, getting married in Scotland, where it’s pretty much all-winter, all the time), often need something to keep us warm during chilly ceremonies and outside photos ops. Faux fur shrugs make a great choice: not only are they lovely and snuggly, they’re also glamorous enough to not spoil the look of your carefully chosen gown. The shrug on the left is by Cornelia James and costs £65, while the one on the right is by good old Next, and is just £22.99.

Technically, both these options come in as quite cheap with not much difference when you compare prices after conversion. The white strplaess Jessica McClintock dress has a black lace sash waist detail and is $188 at Nordstrom. And the cheaper option is the trouser suit combi, ideal for a registry office or engagement do, which comes from Next and consists of a lace trim cream bustier top £29.50 plus cream trousers £32.50.

Cheap vs Chic – Monique Lhuillier lace dress

‘Has anyone been able to find a less expensive version of the Hjelm(JH 8663) or ML all-over lace dress?’ Hollis

You’re in luck because, yes, I have found a much, much less expensive version of the Monique Lhullier and Jim Hjelm lace dresses. The Monique version is on the left (click here for a similar Jim Hjelm style) but on the right, I’ve found a Bari Jay lace halter neck dress with scalloped neck line and satin sash tied at the waist. And the price – $178 from Nordstrom!
