Dramatic Cathedral train at Sophia Tolli

By admin on November 24th, 2008

SophiaTolli24Nov.jpg
When you look at this two piece dress from Sophia Tolli’s Fall 2008 collection, it’s the semi-cathedrial train that is the eye-catching feature. But, if you wondered how comfortable that would be to wear all day, you’re in luck as the train is detachable so you can wear it for a showstopping ceremony and whip it off for evening dancing. It’s available in light gold/ivory, diamond white, white and ivory.

With the ethereal photography, this dress looks everybit the fairytale dream. A sweetheart bodice is decorated confetti style whilst the skirt is full and sweeping. Dress it with traditional accessories and you’re on to a winner.

Sweetheart dress by Jane Wang for Kleinfeld

By admin on November 18th, 2008

JaneWang18Nov.jpg
There’s something about this dress that feels about eighties to me. I think it might be the horizontally panelled skirt but thankfully there is a sleek dropped waist corset to balance it with a pretty sweetheart notch bodice and lovely beading that brings it right up to date.

‘Prado’ by San Patrick

By admin on November 7th, 2008

San Patrick 7Nov.jpg
I’m rather partial to a lacy dress and this one is just gorgeous as are so many other dresses in San Patrick’s 2009 collection. The embroidery isn’t too heavy with it mostly concentrated across the bodice and repeated on the skirt. You can add to the look with a lace bolero and veil as shown here or you can tone it down with plainer accessories.

‘Hudson’ A-line wedding dress by Christos

By admin on November 6th, 2008

Christos6Nov.jpg
If you’re too traditional to try colour but want a gown that is a little more interesting than straight up and down white, try a dress like this that has contrasting but complementing fabrics. On the bodice there is a shimmery Duchesse satin while the skirt is floor skimming tulle.

‘Sendero’ by Manuel Mota

I love the glamour of this dress which I feel has a real old Hollywood feel. It’s an A-line shape, not that you can really tell, with a natural waist and that huge skirt of spiral silk. It’s couture, of course, so I expect it’s going to cost a heck of a lot. Start saving!

‘Ashtyn’ at Maggie Sottero

By admin on November 4th, 2008

Maggie Sottero Ashtyn.jpg
I’ve no idea what an ‘Ashtyn’ is – is it a name? – but I do like this dress which should appeal to the showgirl lurking in us all. The geometric crystal design spans the bodice front and back and continues into the skirt which has tulle inserts to give it a romantic fluted look and a small train. There’s a choice of a lace-up or zip back and it comes in three colour choices – white, diamond white or ivory over light gold.

Taupe-shade gown by Mon Cheri

By admin on November 3rd, 2008

MonCheri 3Nov.jpg
Taupe is such an unusual shade for a wedding dress but if white really washes you out, this subtle shade could be the antidote. The lace bodice and the ruched skirt soften the overall colour and it would make a a very wearable day to evening style. It’s also available in white or ivory.

‘Dior’ by Annette Carey

Giving a gown a name like ‘Dior’ means you have to get it right if you want to pay true homage to a master of fashion. I think this one works. The pleated skirt has a tailored feel to it whilst the bodice has been kept interesting with a subtle print and a bow detail at the back.

‘Ardine’ at Special Day Bridal

SpecialDay30Oct.jpg
There is a vintage quality to this outfit that is really appealing. A plunging v-neck is countered with a modesty panel and a ruched taffeta waist and the skirt is scattered with fabric roses. The fascinator sat on the side of the head and the pearl cuff are beautiful finishing touches.

Gemini from the Valentina Sposa 2009 collection at Pronovias

By admin on October 29th, 2008

Pronovias29Oct.jpg
It’s great to see a unique dress and this one from the Valentina Sposa 2009 collection is precisely that. The slimfitting mermaid dress has a pretty beaded detail around the shoulders and arms which makes way for an elegant beaded panel at the v-notch back which has train starting mid back, something that isn’t hugely popular for bridal gowns but really works here.

Hi-low destination dress at Alfred Angelo

By admin on October 28th, 2008

AlfredAngelo 28Oct.jpg
I’m currently half frozen here in London so I’m trying to warm myself up with the thoughts of a destination wedding and this is the perfect dress for it. In net over satin with embroidered lace, crystal beading, sequins and pearls and a pretty hi-low hemline, I can see it at any kind of beach, garden or informal ceremony. It comes in ivory/gold, white/gold, ivory and white and costs under £599.

So many sheath dresses think they have to keep it simple but not this one which has gone all out on the detailing. There’s a ruched longline bodice with a lace neckline panel and the skirt has cutaway detailing with a lace underskirt and sweep train.

‘Ferrara’ by Hannibal Laguna

With plenty of detailing, this is a very special dress that will ensure the bride is firmly the centre of attention will still being quite modest. I love the shape of the high halterneck line with its lace, beading and hip detail plus the skirt is a feathery fantasy.
