Ian Stuart ‘Fonteyn’ Fan-tailed Dress

By admin on October 10th, 2006

Ian_stuart_1010Ian Stuart isn’t a designer known for demure, understated gowns as he veers more towards overblown statements, rich colours and the kind of glamour you normally only see on period gowns from BBC dramas. So you could say I’m pleasantly surprised to find this gem amongst his collection.

The ‘Fonteyn’ is a bias cut, wrap over dress that flares into a mermaid skirt. Detail is a high priority for this dress, it shimmers with crystals and sequins and the skirt opens into a side split to display the fabric hand made corsage and fan-tailed underskirt.

Romantica Champagne Coloured Dess

By admin on October 9th, 2006

Romantica0810_1If bubbly champagne is your drink of choice then this could be the dress for you. Just like the drink this dress is all froth but with plenty of drama for a special occasion.

The corset is boned for shape with a frothy frill to the bustline. The gold skirt drapes in an assymetrical with side ruching under which tumbles layers of floor length skirt.

Johanna Hehir – 50s Inspired Dress

By admin on October 6th, 2006

Johanna_hehir_1Johanna Hehir is the designer of today’s daily frock. She’s gone for inspiration from the 50s but done without the poofiness to create a dress that would not look out of place on the modern bride.

The skirt is a 3/4 length A-line, the fabric silk organza with undertulle and the shrug is detachable to make a strapless number. Now, if only the dress had a name rather than a product code – £1600 (psst If you are London-bound, they have a basement sample sale at greatly reduced prices in their Marlyebone London store. Catherine Davighi ‘Lollipop’

By admin on October 5th, 2006

CatherinedavighiWe’ve been a little light on wedding dresses as of late. The Pick of the Week and Yay or Nay Wednesday will both stay as will Friday’s ghastly Frock Horrors that you’ve come to love to loathe. But now I’ll be bringing you a daily frock too. Bring on the wedding prOn!

I’m kicking off with Catherine Davighi’s ‘Lollipop’ from her Paparazzi collection. The tulle skirt is great – bouncy and pretty without being overly princessy and I love the way the tulle continues across the shoulders like a delicate wrap. With that rise at the skirt, you’ll be able to show off those swish shoes too. Great for spring and autumn weddings.
